dry firing

I don't think that dry firing will hurt it. however I would put in some SPENT cases when I was doing it just to make sure some live ones didn't get in the gun for an oops or worse

The owners' manual for my Ruger SP-101 .22 LR states that it can be dry-fired without damage. Do they even make .22 LR snap caps? I am trying to remember if I have ever seen any.

I've always been told dry firing any rimfire was a bad idea as the firing pin would be beating up the side of the chamber without the case to cushion it.
This might not be the case in every rimfire made as I'm no expert but I'd personally avoid it unless I learned otherwise on a particular gun.
