Dry firing new revolver (S&W 340PD)

Have a 340PD. Directions are very vague on whether you can or cannot dry fire this gun. Is it ok to dry fire it? Is it possible to damage the gun over time by dry firing it? Thanks

An e-mail that S&W sent me said that it was OK to dry fire. Just to be on the safe side, I bought a set of A-Zoom snap caps. Since the "beast", a 340SC, was so expensive, I decided not to take any chances.

After nearly 2,000 "snaps", the "beast" has smoothed out quite a bit. I still don't use it for casual plinking,

I've snapped mine, empty, certainly into the thousands of times. S&W says it's okay. Maybe it's gonna break next time, but it hasn't so far.
