dry firing defender, does it hurt?

I've read about dry firing exercises to improve trigger squeeze. Will this damage components after repeating over and over? Yep, I've read the manual and I didn't see anything directly stating NOT to dry fire the pistol as to cause damage. In fact after reassembly manual states to test by letting hammer fall to ensure proper assembly. Still nothing about repeated dry firing.

Maybe dummy rounds? Thanks, Ron

As usual....

it depends.

Classics like S&W revolvers and 1911 pistols can be dry fired almost forever.
I did break one S&W firing pin in a K frame. It was shot and dry fired many, many times. Four or five years of constant shooting and fooling with it.

Not a bad record.

Personally I don't like it! But I do it anyway. I just recently ordered some snap caps to ease the stress it puts on the pin.
Any material if stressed and strained enough will fail.
If your worried, then just purchase some snap caps, they are cheap and can help to eliminate flinching. Have a friend put a couple in with your full mag and when one is chambered you will see how bad you are flinching.
You can find them on www.cheaperthandirt.com for around $11.
