dry firing a vepr .223 rifle

Hi everyone! Today I picked up a new vepr .223 rifle. Is it okay to dry fire this gun? I always used to to " relax " the hammer spring, but this practice has been debated. Can I leave the hammer cocked on my guns after shooting? If not, will it harm the gun to dry fire it? By the way, I got this rifle for 449.00. did I do okay? I am not the first owner, but the previous owner never fired this rifle. Thanks!

I've been in the market for a Vepr II and I'd say you did well on the price. Personally, I wouldn't worry about dryfiring the rifle, especially if you are only doing it before putting it back in the safe.

I had a VEPR in 308 and loved it. Good luck with the rifle.

As far as dry firing it, if you are worried, buy one of those red plastic bullets they sell at gun shops. You can dry fire all day with one of them 'cause the firing pin is actually hitting an object and not just flinging into the open air.

Once again, good luck and enjoy.
