Dry firing a shotgun

Please pardon me if this question sounds silly, but would dry firing a shotgun "hurt" the gun? Thanks for sharing your expertise.

At least in the case of the Remington 870...... NO.

There are police training 870 shotguns that have been dry fired literally tens of thousands of times.

Even if the pin breaks, the 870 pin is easy to change out.

MOST modern pump shotguns will take almost unlimited dry firing.

i've heard it's okay but i don't see the manufacturers saying it's okay the same way they do with pistols. i got 12ga snap caps, but rarely thing to put them in when i'm letting the pin down :P

Most you can to you hearts content but to save a little stress on your firing pin go ahead and get the snap caps.

Browning BPS

Thanks for sharing. I'm talking specifically about the Browning BPS and the Winchester 1300 Defender models.
