Dry firing a Marlin .30-30?

Gentlemen,

I have a question for you. Is it OK to dry fire my new Marlin .30-30? I looked through my manual and I didn't see any warnings against it but I wanted to check with this august group before I do something I will regret. I thank you in advance.

The only firing pins I have ever broken in rifles were in lever actions from dry-firing. Marlin used to say not to, in their manuals...but I don't know if they still do. I'd advise against it, unless you use a small rubber block cut from a Pink Pearl eraser between hammer and firing-pin head to cushion the hammer blow and quiet the annoying loud click. Cheaper than a new pin. Some guns can be dry-fired and some can be damaged by it. Levers just seem to be of the latter type.

If they take our guns, I intend to let my hair grow long and acquire the jawbone of an ass.
