Dressing out my (Henry) 41 mag

Finished tweaking my new 41 mag rifle. First off, I (hopefully) got the windage on the iron sights fixed by tapping the front sight a bit after returning the rear buckhorn to a more centered position. Also, I can't see the white diamond at all with unaided sight--so I cut a snippet of floro duct tape and put it on.

I installed Henry's scope mount into the pre-drilled and tapped holes in the receiver--it attached easily and securely. With the scope and rings removed you can still sight straight down the mount and line up the buckhorn with the front sight--though you won't see the diamond. Better than nothing in an emergency IMO.

Got the Leupold VX2 1.5 x 4 from OP which is almost perfect for the gun--super light weight and very sharp glass as usual. In fact, with the scope further back on the receiver than a mount in place of the rear buckhorn you could really get by with a regular (non-scout) type of scope IMO.

Stagpanther, I just sent the grandsons home with a 30/30 336 Marlin; I gave them a choice between a Model 94 and the 336. They choose the Marling because the Model 94 had that unloved look of having never gotten out of the house before. I was sort of lucky when making both of them happy, one of them preferred a shotgun, and there went the 870 Wingmaster 12 gage. I had purchased it for my dad many years ago and was luck enough to get it back after he died.

Got my father a 870 also, maybe 20 years (or better) ago. Never shot, came home with me when he passed in 2004. Mother said remove aall guns NOW, and
I always listened! Remy, and a few other pieces, one of which is a much prized early 50's Model 70 in .270.

IIRC Marbles makes a version of that rear site that doesn't have the big ears on it. Some will tell you a scope on a lever gun is just wrong. Not me though. If you can't see it, you can't hit it. I have a scope on my 336 30-30 and on my marlin 357. Also on my model 39. But the model 39 is so accurate that without a scope you will never shoot to its potential. Nice looking gun.

wow !!!!!

I'm soooo jealous of you . Wish I could come up with the cash to get a Henry 41 mag. I had a Marlin years ago , hated to sell it.

I'm having a bit of trouble finding the "sweet spot" with my hand-loads--so far my best loads in my black-hawk (xtp's driven by H110 or W296) have been OK out of my Henry but nothing to write home about. Another curious thing is that shooting outside in the cold--the groups seem to tighten up as the barrel warms--in my 5 shot groups the first one or two shots seem to fly wide but the rest group impact closer together. Got a lot to learn yet I guess.
