The role of the police officer in the quest for individual
rights is a common topic for many in the activist community.
I am often challenged with the demand for my personal
interpretation of certain constitutional rights, or to
define my response to a hypothetical situation. Typically,
the question is, "If the [government leader] ordered you to
go door-to-door to confiscate firearms, what would you do?"

I received my NRA instructor training from Leroy Pyle when he was an NRA director.

He's a good guy, and his response here is honest and well-reasoned.
 
Good article, and he is right. Once upon a time most cops were ex-GIs and at least somewhat into guns, and liked them. Their formative years made them into our kind of people. In my time most officers fit that description. Many still do.

Now? Many of the 'kids' coming into law enforcement when I left were born in the 60s--and their ignorance of history, traditions, and government were breathtaking.

Just remember, all of those guys wearing badges out there were kids once; and the future LEOs are in class now. Hell, even I was a kid once.
