DPMS LR 308 recoil and magazines

I am very interested in getting this rifle at a local gunshop (16 inch version). My main concern is the recoil with the telescoping stock. Even though it feels pretty heavy, I'm concerned my cheek will take a beating firing 308 rounds with the stock set up. What are your experiences with this?

Also, are the magazines 19 round or 20? I see them advertised 19 rounds one place and 20 rounds another.

Thanks.

I have one and have no issues with it. I have an Eotech sight on it and regulary hit the 300 yard gong and popper with it from the bench. I put a Timney trigger in it with some antiwalk trigger pins ( Kenson, I think) and it is good to go.

I have the factory adjustable stock on it and the recoil is no worse than my M1A or for that matter my R700 SPS .308.

Make sure you pull the rifle into your shoulder pretty tight and you will not have any problems.

Most reccommend not putting 20 rounds in the magazine. I fill the magazine with 19. Most of the time I only load 10.

I have had some experiences with failure to feed with some DPMS magazines. It was a manufacturing issue and was quickly corrected. I have two DPMS rifles and they have worked out great for me. I would buy them again.

It will be no different from shooting the 308 out of any other similar platform. My face is just fine and I have about 500 rounds through mine. I have the LRT308 setup with a Night Force NXS 2.5-10X32 and love the system.

The .308 AR platforms handle the recoil very well. My 21" is much softer than my M1A's. A 16" carbine would be a little more but very manageable. The oem DPMS mags are 19 rounders. The DPMS well accept the magpul plastic SR25 mags and are a upgrade from the oem mags.

Buy it, it well put a smile on your face:D

I own a DPMS LR308 AP4(carbine) for the past 6 years now,it's been very reliable and accurate. The semi auto soaks up a bunch of recoil so I really don't notice it recoiling any more than my 5.56 Colt AR15.My main hunting rifle is a Rem 700 7mm mag rem,so the .308 recoil to me is very mild "Pop gun mild" for me....ymmv

most of them weight in the vacinity of 10lbs and shoting a 308 that heavy puts felt recoil less then a 243 out of a bolt gun. Ive put hundreds of rounds through my ar10 in a day with a retractable stock and it wasnt just bareable it was fun. Now my 50 beo is another story. 50 rounds through it with a t shirt on is about all i want.

I'm using the Magpul stock and can say that the cheek weld is very comfortable, and recoil is a non-issue for me.

Thanks for all the replies. I bought the rifle today. I'm still puzzled though why they would make 19-round magazines instead of 20-round magazines? If the FAL, M1A, and HK91/G3 could do it 50-60 years, why not today also?

My DPMS mags all hold 20 rds but will not lock in place with a closed bolt.
If the bolt is back, they work fine @ 20 rds. Otherwise, 19 is the number.
You might find that the 10 rd mag is more convenient for most shooting though.
Enjoy your LR 308, if its anything like mine, it'll be accurate and reliable.
