DPMS for tactical

I have never been a DPMS fan for real world tactical use. They make a good rifle for most purposes just never thoughtr about it for a grunt gun. I looked around at some old post on here and not really the info I was looking for. I know that for the most part they do have good accuracy and that they are well built, but I want to know if you all think that they would really hold up in the land of sand, or the swamps/jungles of asia. I run a YHM and know that it holds up but looking for somthing else to have also. So if any one has real world input on how the DPMS holds up to battle field styl conditions I would be very greatful to hear it. Thanks

Well I know nothing of combat situations, but I know I am extremely hard on my equipment! Several times a year some buds and I basically camp out in a giant sandpit and cut loose for days on end. I can easily go through thousands of rounds in a 3-4 day period with little to no maintenance done, other than maybe a quick small squirt of rem-oil. In the Rain, sleet, snow, shine..... And driving the wheelers done those dusty dirt roads n falling in the mud holes with my lite 16 slung or tied to the rig (uncased either way).

I have been doing this with my panther for about 5 years, I'd guess about 10-15,000 rounds through it. Plus another 20,000 with my .22 conversion. And I have yet to replace a broken part or have any big failures......

Like I said, hardly combat, but I'd imagine its about as close as one could get.....??

I own a DPMS Panther Lite along with a Daniel Defense AR. With some research, specifically the current updated "chart" you will probably find for same or maybe $100-$200 more you can take a Palmetto or BCM upper with a quality lower. I have zero combat experience but if my life depended on a rifle, there would be several choices ahead of DPMS. Perfect range rifle though.

SauerJackson: thats the type of info I need. What you talk of is pretty much equal to combat so you got a good rifle only thing is seems you fire more rounds in a 3 day stent then what is normale down range which is even more of a testment to you rifle

Aiko: I know there are other options out there. I run a YHM Blackdiamond xl right now and it is awsome. I have bud that run BCM's and Bushies. I like the bcm but not my self a huge fan of the bushies but they still a good rifle. But I do not know any one that runs a DPMS for real world ops thats why I am looking for the info. I know people who use them for hog hunting and the like and really like it for that. I also know some LE units use them so that lets me know that they are at least in the true tactical world.

So any one else that has ever put a DPMS through the paces other then just range shooting let me know.

Chris, if you are really looking for that info ask your question on AR15.com and M4Carbine.com You will get the real world feedback you are looking for. Warning: answers may be harsh.

Then again I bought a brand new AR-15 and had extraction problems from the get go. However, a extractor upgrade kit and it was stroking with the best of them. I ordered me some BCM extractor Upgrade kits for about $5.00 bucks and keep em on hand for just in case.
