Downside of Early Success

Taking a deer in archery season after three and a half hours on stand (two the first evening and an hour and a half two days later) is certainly a thrill. It means my scouting paid off and I knew where to be. But there is also a downside.

No more "anticipation."

Too few hours out enjoying some of the best hunting weather of the year.

Gotta wait until my antlerless permit becomes legal before hitting the field again.

Sigh . . .

I know how you feel. I took my buck at 10:30 am the first day of deer season. I am only allowed one per season.

I do have meat in the freezer now though.

We hunted for 3 weekends, and one full weekthis year for moose and bear, and have nothing to show for it but the 6 or 7 grouse we took during season. It's been a while since we dropped something opening morning.
*sigh* ;)
