What do you all reccomend for a good, inexpensive dove gun? I want something in 20 guage. Thanks.

DonR101395,

Thanks for the input, but $800 is WAY out of my price range! I need something a lot less expensive than that.

My Remignton 870 and 11-87 have done me good, and I use to shoot the 20ga. version of the 870. Good, cheap, reliable guns.

These work very well for a Semi-auto inexpensive Dove gun. Usally run around 400 bucks brand new.

Another good one is a Remington Spartan for Semi-auto and around 400.

If you want a pump gun.
The every faithfull Remington 870 can be had between 200-300, or my new favorite Pump gun an Benelli Nova

The Stoegers are really kinda underated IMO, I got to shoot one last time I went to shoot Clays and I was impressed, it felt good to me and never malifunctioned. I have a 11-87 SPS and a Benelli Nova and really enjoy both guns. If I'm gonna do alot of shooting I take the 11-87 just because I get tired of racking that slide.

No problem, I saw dove and thought over/under. The maverick and mossberg are great guns. I bought the marlin to replace/suppliment my mossberg I've been shooting the last 26 years. I don't know if I'd own a different pump gun.

A dove gun is one shot at doves. Darn near everything has been used over the years.

Going cheap....

Get a pump gun made in the US. Stick a Mod tube in it, stoke it with 8s and shoot evil clay discs until the season opens.

I have an OLD Rem 1100 12 guage that I just got back running yesterday. Just a simple split ring had come off, but I was really wanting a 20. I guess if I don't get something that is gas operated the 1100 will be about as mild as a pump or double 20.

By the way, the Rem 1100 cost about 150.00 brand new, so that should give you all some idea how old it is!!

What about a 1400 Winchester 20 gauge?

Thats what i use for my "dove gun".

The WInchester 1400 semi ( Also model 140 Ranger) can be found used on Gunbroker for $250 or so.

I paid $260 for my like new 1400 on GB. It has a 26" barrel and is threaded for Win chokes.

BUCKMARK,

It just so happens that I have a Winchester 1400 in 20. But it has a 28 inch barrel. Do you know where I could find a 26 inch barrel for it?

BUCKMARK,

I have access to a model 1400 in 20 guage, but it has a 28" barrel. Do you know where I could get a 26 inch barrel? My 1100 has a 28 inch, plain barrel and I was looking for a 26 in with Rem choke, but I could buy a new pump for the cost of the 1100 barrel.

browning bps 20g

find a used browning 20g or a new 1 if you want. they sport a top tang safety, and bottom eject, ( either lefty or right handed shooter can use. )

Win Model 1400 bbl...26"...

There are several at Midwest Gun Works...midwest gun works

EDIT: Opps...looking at this, they are sold out of the Winchoke 26" but there are imp cyl available.

Sorry...didn't mean to high jack the thread. You can't go wrong with a Rem 870.

Just about any pump gun is good for doves - even a $159 Mossburg Maverick at Walmart will do.

The Stoeger 2000 for $299 at Sportsman Warehouse is also a great buy too.

If you want a double (which is the best way to hunt upland, IMHO), and you need to go new, CZ makes a twin trigger over/under for about $500. Called the Ringneck, I believe.

What's your budget?

I bought a well-used Liberty 12ga SXS for $200. I got lucky, and it shoots to point of aim. It has taken a few doves, quail and hungarians.
