Double stack Saiga shotgun mag?

Was bored and playing with my guns and changed out the mag on my XD9 and had a thought...Maybe somebody has thought of this and it's just a terrible idea, but I thought I'd get some thoughts on it anyhow :)

Anybody ever considered a double stack S20/12/410 mag? It would probably work better with the .410, but with the right design, I suppose it would work for the larger shells as well. Just wanted to see if anybody else thought this might be a good idea or if you don't think it'll work. I want to know either way so I can decide if I want to maul a couple mags trying to work it out :)

Edit: Keep in mind that I can get .410 mags for 10$ a piece for practice materials if need be :p
 
Shotgun shells have rims, and rimmed cartridges traditionally don't mix with double-stack mags.

It's why there are no double-stack .22 mags as far as I know.
 
I understand that. But the way the Saiga mags are set up, the inside of the mag allows the rims to overlap anyway. So if you could allow them to over lap and have a big enough space for them to load from it wouldn't be a problem. Or would it do you think?
 
I think you would have problems at the point where the two stacks merge into a single feed-position. If you tried a dual feed position setup it seems like the receiver and maybe the bolt would have to be a heck of a lot wider.

Dunno for sure, just seems like that's how it would play out.
 
As long as you accommodate the two stacks with enough taper from the top they should 'blend' into each other pretty well to a single feed stack. I don't know, I've just got a couple simple drawings and a bunch of ideas so far, so there's not too much into it right now. In my head I see it working though lol Just have to get it on paper and maybe pickup a couple .410 mags to play around with :D
 
B. Lahey, Ramline makes several .22 lr double stack magazines.

I only have experience with the 50 round one, but it didn't work worth a damn. It constantly jammed, it was absolutely brutal to load, and now the magazine itself is jammed.

I really don't think it will scale up to 12 gauge.
 
Like I said, in my head, it's working perfectly lol Rims overlap in the double stack to accommodate both stacks and then slightly overlap like they normally do in the feed stack portion. Letting them be stripped one at a time no problem. I may just have to buy a couple cheap mags and play around with them and see how I turn out lol

I do appreciate any and all input though :D
 
Well, just picked up 3 410 mags today. If I don't sell them, then I'll start cutting into them probably mid-week of this coming week. I'll be sure to post any updates I have if any :D
 
Try taking a good look at a magazine from a .303 British (No. 1, 4 or 5). That's a rimed case with a staggered 10 round stack.
