Double rifles??

This will sound crazy but it is possible, and if considered thoughtfully actually practical and useful.

Why in the world is there not a light, as light as one of the top grade shoutguns which can be had in the 5-5 1/2 range, O/U rifle made from stainless with a composit stock sans all the adornment? A rifle ment to be used with all the inherent positive features of such a design incorperating modern materials and designs.

I looked at the Flodman and while the design is cutting edge they still have wood only stocks and it is rather ugly, even though light and of stainless.

Such a rifle, depending on chambering, would be perfect for our thick woods here in Florida and with consideration of the lightness and compact nature would be useful in a number of other situations.

Could such be built on a 20 ga. Ruger Red Label actions? Pressures to high? Other options?

double rifle - light

Dear Sir:
Understand!
I would love to get a double in 9.3X74R!
One of the light German drillings are especially nice.
I just don't know if the Ruger Red Label would hold a rifle caliber, but I doubt it. Double rifles usually are designed for the 45, cup pressures or less but they have double locking and a solid pin against which to bear and are very finely fitted.
I understand your desire though and understand.
Personally I would like to go to Africa but too old and cannot aford it!

You could carry 2 Nef's

Just joking. When I think of Double Rifles I think of older Gentleman with a Elobrate rifle walking around Africa.

My Best guess as to why there isn't one... There isn't a big enough market to make one. I mean the main reason you have a double rifle is because your using a Large Caliber and might NEED a very quick follow-up shot and this is the easiest and best way to do it (I'm only guessing here and I'm not a expert). For your normal hunting in North America the need for such a rifle is filled with semi-auto rifles since they can be chambered in calibers that can effectivlly kill North American Game or single shot rifles. I mean if you shoot a Whitetail the chance's of him charging you with the intent to kill and actually making it is slim.

The above are just my random thoughts.

Look at Chapuis double rifles-I've held few of them and they are pretty light. But they are not synthetic, it would be a blasphemy to make a double rifle with synthetic stock.

Cheers

Either it is a restart or this crowd is about to birth some insightful new concept like the full-auto .700 Nitro Express. I'll let someone else fire it first.
