double eagle derringer problem

got this as a gift for x-mas from my husband.wondering if anyone else has ever had problems with this derringer misfiring?. we bought it brand new and first time out it was misfiring about 10 out of 15 shots. we where using remington ammo 22LR.first few shot off just fine but then it was constant. we figured we'd try federal cause we always had good luck with them but haven't yet.but i'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this with this gun makes me a little weary thinking we might take it back to the dealer..

When you get these 'failure to fire', what do the rims of the cartridges look like?

Do they have strong dents, but simply did not fire, or are the dents weak?

One means you have bad ammo, and one means you have an issue with the gun...

It could be the ammo,,,

I experience a lot of "dud" rounds with Remington .22 ammo,,,
Especially the "Golden Bullet" bulk pack line.

Try one box of CCI-MiniMags,,,
See if your problem doesn't go away.

I honestly can not remember ever having a "dud" MiniMag,,,
So if you do experience a dud using MiniMags,,,
It's highly likely your gun is faulty.

It's not definite proof,,,
But a very solid indicator.

Just got back from the range and out of 30 federal rounds, 3 did not fire. tried the Remingtons again and out of 10 rounds 4 misfired and we also realized that it was always the bottom barrel that failed to fire the remingtons. so what do you think. we also have a problem with the lever that pops the bullets out after they're fired. most the time it is so hard that we have to use a mini screwdriver to pry them out of the chamber.what can we do to fix the problem?

aarondhgraham- we had a few cci's left and DH didnt remember till we got to the range that we had forgotten them. We are using the "big box of golden bullet" remy's. I dont like them either we've had lots of duds in the past thats why i told DH i wanted to try federals cause we've actually have had good luck with them in the past. but this box of remys has been working fine in my daughters 22 rifle so that why we started thinking maybe it was the gun.

I am not familiar with the particular gun you are speaking of, and although I could look it up, I will assume that it is a somewhat standard type of two shot derringer.

With the gun empty, close and latch the barrels, then try to move them as if you were opening the gun to load it (but don't unlatch it), It sounds as if the barrel latch is not tight enough, and is allowing the bottom barrel to move away from the firing pin (sometimes), it only takes a little movement to get a light strike.

If this is the case, you will need to contact the manufacturer about a warranty repair.

Hello natscooby,,,

aarondhgraham- why do you say take it back?

I apologize if my post read a bit snippy,,,
It was meant purely as sound advice. :o

Also I did make an assumption,,,
A foolish thing to do in the best of circumstances.

I assumed your husband bought it new from a gun dealer.

If that's the case,,,
It's "bad out of the box",,,
The manufacturer should repair or replace it.

The little derringer sells new for around $135 to $150.

It might cost more to have it fixed yourself,,,
Than the initial cost of the gun.

It all depends on if it's worth it to you.

If I had purchased it brand new,,,
I would be taking it back where I bought it.

claymore1500- i will check that and see if it moves i know it does wiggle some cause i remember thinking when we took it out the first time that it felt kinda "loose" and i asked my DH and he assumed it was because they way they open.

aarondhgraham- No i didn't take offense to what you said sorry if it sounded that way i just meant what brought you to tell me to take it back... the misfiring ,the ejection lever? And yes he bought it brand new, in the box from our local dealer. in the paper manual it says a years manufacture warranty I just wasn't sure if this was a big enough problem to send it back or not. and wanted some opinions on whether i should or not or wether it was a simple fix or "just the way these guns are".
