double barrel shotguns!

I've always liked the old school, nostalgic look of double barrel shotguns whether it is an over under or sxs. I know these are fairly expensive shotguns but does anyone know of a manufacture that has any around the 500-700$ range?

Beware or be aware that not all gun with exposed hammers work, some are just there for decoration. TNN makes and excellent gun and is favored by completive shooters because it holds up. I spent a lot for my gun because I wanted the case finish but you should be able to find one for a lot less than $700.

I bought my gun from this GUY, he sells them for $399 without the case hardened finish

Silver'vette,
You may be jumping to conclusions about geoffthesnake wanting an exposed hammer, double trigger gun. I don't think a coach gun fits with the OP's description of, the old school, nostalgic look of double barrel shotguns whether it is an over under or sxs. Aren't coach guns pre-old school? ;)

I was aware that some exposed hammer guns don't have fully functioning hammers -- they act as cockers but not strikers. Are there some exposed hammers that are totally non-functional?

Maybe I did jump to a incorrect assumption, but the O/P will have to clarify on that point but when someone says "old school, nostalgic look of double barrel shotguns" then I automatically make the assumption I did. By the way I wanted a coach gun for a long time and when I was ready to buy I had to have something that was as close to what they used back then including the case hardened finish. The case finish cost a lot extra but to me it was worth it.

Off hand I can't name the manufacturer but when I was looking for a coach gun a while back so of my research lead me to conclude that not all coach gun hammers are functional, they are just there for decorative purposes and to give the gun that old style look.

If I get a chance to do some searching I'll try to come up with a manufacturer that makes non functioning hammers.

The old coach gun silvercorvette posted was not what I had in mind. Cool but definetly a little older then what I was picturing in my head. Thanks for the info. I looked up the CZ shotguns prior to posting this thread. I wondered if there were any other manufactures out there. Thanks everyone!

If you're looking for internal hammer guns in that price range, Stoeger has an extensive line in 12 & 20, with double & single triggers, and various finishes.

Good bet for recent used would be the Baikals, formerly imported by European American Armory & Remington. Russian guns, sturdy, not imported currently as far as I know.

Savage imports their 612 Trail Gun from Turkey, I have no experience with those.

Sorry silvercorvette I was not aware the shotgun you posted was a newer model. It had me fooled with the bluing. What you posted however, with the hammers being on the outside, is not what I'm looking for though.

CDNN has been selling Charles Daly SxS in your price range. Also, you can find Fox Savage and Stevens 311 in that price range, used. Check out the CDNN homepage. Or save up twice as long and get more than twice the gun with a Browning used-but-like-new SxS from Gunsamerica or other online auction sites.

FWIW, the Stoeger Uplander that Scorch mentioned earlier is a pretty good gun, and just might fit your bill. I got one in 2008 and have used it regularly for turkey hunting and it has been completely reliable, as well as accurate. And I believe you can easily find one for less than the price range you mentioned. No fancy engraving, but a good-looking, functional firearm.

Mine is a combo package, and came with a set of 12 gauge and 20 gauge barrels.

Hey geoff, what state are you in?

I have a couple of fairly new, well maintained O/U's for sale as well as a couple SxS's. I want to clean out my safe a little since I am getting a new Merkel 147EL.

A nice used gun will save you a few hundred compared to new.

There should be a lot of Brownings and some Winchesters around - then you have a famous brand to go with your old-time look. Be sure a gunsmith checks things out (bore condition, etc.) if these quality guns are found in your price range. If you find any famous-name SxSs (Parker, Smith, etc.) then the gunsmith check is critical. If you are mostly shooting targets, think 28"+ and 7 lbs+; if you are mostly upland hunting, think 28"- and 7 lbs-. For trap/waterfowl, get longer and heavier. Be prepared to lengthen the LOPull (recoil pad/spacers) as the older guns are often short stocked.
