GOA's standards much be stricter, b/c some of the guys with A NRA ratings don't have that with GOA. My rep, a democrat is running against a republican and a libertarian. The republican has a B rating and the Libertarian an A rating. I will be voting for the Republican candidate, b/c he needs all the votes he can get and it will be close, even though he has a lower rating. Many gun owners are helping him, including myself by volunteering to make calls, stuffing envelopes and mail drops. Even though he has a GOA b rating he will always remember the countless hours we put in for him.

The other thing I wanted to mention is that our governor, who is a democrat got from the NRA an A rating. He hasn't done anything to take away our rights but hasn't done anything for them. My NRA evc called them and ripped them a new one but they chose not to lower his rating. I can see why the GOA would show a different rating.

Both organizations leave a bit to be desired.

My beef with the NRA is that they only list candidates that are Repub. or Dem. The good thing is that they list National *and* State congress candidates.

By beef with the GOA is that they don't list any candidates on the State level. The good thing is that they list "third-party" candidates as well as Rs and Ds.

Oh well, pobody's nerfect.

The republican has a B rating and the Libertarian an A rating. I will be voting for the -compromiser-

Ahhh and now we see why our reps find compromise so easy.
BLUESMAN---what alerts have you been looking at.Email GOA and subsribe to all state alerts Ive got state candidate survey's running out my ears for example.2000 Tennessee State Primary Survey Results

1. Do you oppose "one-gun-a-month" laws that limit purchases of firearms by law-abiding citizens?
2. Should state law prohibit localities from placing limitations on the rights of citizens to purchase, possess, or carry firearms?
3. Would you oppose legislation mandating no-safety zones designed to ban concealed carry for self-defense and forcing honest citizens to be disarmed?
4. Would you oppose legislation that would require that firearms purchased by private citizens be registered with law enforcement and tracked by a centralized record system administered by government agencies?
5. Do you oppose legislation banning the manufacture, sale or possession of semi-automatic firearms?
6. Do you oppose legislation banning the manufacture, sale or possession of large-capacity magazines?
7. Do you oppose laws that would take away the rights of 18-20 year-olds to possess a firearm?
8. Do you oppose laws which allow persons who are shot by a properly-working firearm to sue firearms manufacturers and/or firearms sellers (strict liability)?
9. Do you oppose laws which would ban the sale of a privately owned firearm at a gun show unless it is reported and registered with government bureaucrats?
10. Do you oppose government licensing to buy a gun?
11. Will you oppose computerized "instant" background check legislation since it centrally registers gun sales and gun owners?
12. Do you oppose government mandated use of trigger locks or other such hazardous "safety" devices which have the effect of making it difficult, if not impossible, to have a gun available to defend your home and family?
13. Would you oppose legislation that bans firearms ownership due to simple misdemeanors, and therefore unfairly targets and victimizes legal gun owners?
14. Would you support Vermont-style legislation which would eliminate all requirements to pay fees and register gun owners and simply allow law-abiding citizens to carry firearms openly or concealed (at the individual's discretion) for any reason except for the commission of a crime?
Key:

Y = Pro-gun answer
N = Anti-gun answer
NR = Did not respond to that particular question
Blank = Did not return survey; candidates were warned that failure to respond would be treated as anti-gun

I guess your right though you sort of do have to ask them for the actual rating.
I was recently mailed postcards to send to my
state reps to encourage them to respond to the GOA surveys.
They are the most active lobby I know on a federal and a state level and your telling me your not a member....
Im a member of every lobby I can think of except the NRA and Ive been with them I dought I have your experience but I do enjoy being involved and informed.
The latter I have to thank TFL much for
and for putting up with me.

http://www.gunowners.org/stn0200.htm

I sent those postcards in too, ruger45. Surprisingly, I got a letter back from my State Rep. yesterday saying that he *did* respond to the GOA survey. I didn't think that they really read those things. :)

My representative has been a co-sponsor of proposed legislation that would have Ohio become a "Vermont-style" carry state. He'll be getting my vote again in November.

You could even could even call him
a constitutionalist while your at it.
Their are so few out their it seems to be trying to get us back to the constitution.
Ive seen another state rep propose
Vermont style carry I beleive it
was in New mexico it was brought out
in the GOA newsletter.
I have one rep I plan to vote for out of my
two senators and one congressmen who does not have a long history of republican compromise (their all three republicans)
otherwise I plan to send my money to GOA-PVF
as Ive so often said hoping to help where
more kick butt rep's are running.
How am I not letting greater evils beat my reps? No ones running against them.

Ahhh and now we see why our reps find compromise so easy.

I know the republican candidate and I know he is a man of integrity and I know he wont forget us. On the other hand the libertatrian is a nobody who I have never heard of. Our current congressman is a democRAT and has voted against my freedoms. The race is very close 44% to my guys 42%. We are hoping for an upset and I dont think I am comprimising I am surely choosing the most realistic candidate. And the best possibilty for change.

So much integrity that the libertarian got
a stronger rating on gun votes.
Your right though you know him its not my area maybe you can tell me if you dont mind
a detail how the libertarian has voted badly before.Usually if GOA gives someone a C or even B they have a reason for it and a vote or two to base it on.
Not to mention if they actually gave them an
A

I have to worry about him getting into congress and then we can talk to him. I think he got the B is b/c he is for background checks at gunshows. He isn't a gun owner and I think he really doesn't know why we are against it. He just needs to be EDUCATED, and I think I can be a good teacher.

Hoosierboy,

Who is your congress critter??? I live in Brownsburg IN, I get Kerns. I like him.

Our Senators though  . We have got to vote them out!!

Did you notice O'Bannon got an "A" rating from the NRA? What are your thoughts on that one? McIntosh is always at the 1500.

Regards,
MP

My guy is roemer, but Chris chocola is runnign against him and he got an A. As far as I am concerned we have 2 democratic senators lugar is a tunrcoat and has gotten too comfortable in the senate. The reason O'bannon got an A is b/c he didn't do anything to erode any of the gun laws, but as far as I am concerned he didn't anything to promote them either. I like mcintosh, but I really think he is going to lose. He is going to be here in south bend tommorrow b/c gwbush is coming in. Mcintosh is much more conservative than how he is running his campaign. He is a great man and very pro gun, I will be voting for him, but he is going to lose. I hope O'bannon doesn't take away my guns.

I hate to burst everyone's bubble here, but the NRA's rating for my incumbent in my state district is total BS.

Anyone who lives in KY's 4th district should rethink this.

Here is my letter to the NRA:

NRA,

Yesterday I came across the latest issue of your magazine, American Rifleman. I was disappointed to see that you are endorsing the Democratic Congressional incumbent in Kentucky's 4th district, Ken Lucas.

Have you not done any research of Lucas' pre-Congress record or his opponent, Republican Don Bell?

Don Bell is an active shooter and a member of six gun organizations and four peace officer's groups. His resolve to the Bill of Rights, particularly the 2nd amendment, is impeccable.

Lucas, while in Congress has voted against the gun owners several times while voting in favor of several UN related bills and, the insidious Shayes-Mehann bill.

While the Boone Co. judge exec in KY, Lucas actively lobbied the Ky state legislature against conceal carry with several other fellow fascist liberals for several days.

After that failed attempt he came back to the county and passed a no-conceal ordinance on county property. This included all county property ie: the county parks, where you are most exposed to muggings. Lucas is absolutely no friend of gun owners. He will only vote when a bill is overwhelmingly in favor of passing or, one that seems to be popular at the time in order to put up a facade of conservatism to the voters here. He could care less about gun owners; thus, everything he does is purely political.

I have been and active supporter of the 2nd Amendment for about 6 years now. However, I have never been an NRA member. Most of this is due to procrastination, but after seeing the NRA support unconstitutional proposals such as mandatory trigger locks and hiring more BATF officers, I start having second thoughts about becoming a member. Your reckless endorsement of the anti-gun Ken Lucas just made my mind up for me.

xxxxx (pocat)

The NRA gave this guy an "A" rating, but to be fair, his challenger, Don Bell, got an "A" also. If Gore happens to win, how do you think the Dem will vote then? Hmmmmm?

I'm new here. If anyone here knows anyone who lives in this area, please let them know about this.

I would look up your nra evc and ask him what the f*ck happened. If he doens't know I would give him some education.

I live in TX. Hutchinson has a B-- rating from GOA, and Ruwart, the Libertarian candidate, has an A. Is Hutchinson supposed to win by a large margin? If she needs the votes, I guess I would vote for Hutchinson, but my conscience tells me to vote Ruwart.

I guess I can't lose, according to the NRA. I live in the second district of Oklahoma and both candidates are rated A by the NRA.

Having heard both speak, the Democrat has said stronger things about, though I worry a little about reinforcing the power of Charles Rangel if the Democrats retake Congress.

You might call voting for my congressmen
whos now gotten an A from the NRA 'unable to lose' whos also voted for the AW (semi-auto rifle ban) and the anti-gun juvenile justice bill of Clintons but itll be a cold day in
Hell before he or the republican party get a dime of my money.
Sent to the GOA-PVF for congressmen who dont believe compromise will win them votes or cut down on crime.
