Don't Hate Me Because of These Ruger Prices

I just picked up a new KP-95 (manual safety) and a new KP-97 decocker). I paid $309 and $339 respectively, plus $10 background check for both together and Tennessee's exorbitant sales tax (8 and a quarter percent). After the rebates, this means a basic price of $269 and $299 for these fine firearms. Many people have paid $269 for the modest Kel-Tec's. Time to buy a Ruger auto! ( I am an ordinary gun nut, not affiliated with any gunmaker or dealer.)

I especially like the fact that the 95 can use my three 15 round factory mags I got for my KP-89 and that the 95 weighs five ounces less than the 89 but has the same firepower. I still think the KP-89 and KP-90 are better-looking firearms, especially with Hogue grips, if you care about such things.

Hate to rain on your parade, but the KP97DC sells here (Lower Alabama) for the $339, no background check and 5% state sales tax. Haven't priced a P95 recently, have had one for years and no reason to check prices.

Let me clarify my preceding post. By 'no background check' I meant no charge for the check. Although home of the Confederacy, we still humor the folks up north by application (however token) of their most of their laws.

Drake, dont let anyone rain on your parade!!! Enjoy your new P series guns. A dollar here a dollar there...so what!! They might have went to Outback's the night you bought your pistols and ate what little difference in price you paid compared to what they could have got them for.:p

I am happy that people have done better than I, and am very pleased with my purchases. I look forward to a little shootin' next week.

But in my defense to one poster: It's worth paying a little more to live in fair Tennessee rather than lower Alabama. The only part of Alabama I know and like is Gulf Shores, which is geographically a part of Florida. (Ha, ha, ha!)

I'm struggling right now with a P95

I have a limited budget (just found out we're expecting our first child) and this will be it for awhile. I've already got a good deal on a Ruger MkII 512C with 5.5" bull barrell and adjustable sights ($241.00 plus taxes, $255 out the door, less $20 rebate). Don't have a .22 so this was the time.

I have been thinking about a Kel Tec (have about $300 left in the budget) as I don't really have a great carry gun and am in the process of obtaining my CCW. However, the going rate for P95s is about $295 here in NC, less $40 rebate makes it very appealing to get a high quality 9mm at a really attractive price. I already have a Taurus PT-92 and an Browning Inglis HP (which is in need of some work) so I don't really need another larger 9mm ... but the P95 isn't that big and does have a polymer frame... right?

After all, I can always scrounge around for a used Kel-Tec at a later date...right?

Drakejake: I might have to concede your point on Tennessee. I have thought about moving up there when I retire. I have been up around Knoxville on a couple of occaisions. The countryside is beautiful.
