Do any of you know if the Tikka Master sporter come in a .223? And if so what is a good price. The local shop guy said it only comes in .22 and .308 and they run around $900.

There is indeed a Tikka 595 Sporter in .223 Remington - we've got one. Dealers price from the distributors is right around $700, so go from there.

With aperture sights added, my wife uses it for target shooting. Very nice package with free-floated heavy barrel, rail for hand stop, adjustable cheekpiece and butt pad, and detachable magazine. Bolt action is smooth and fast and it has a very nice trigger.

The major drawback with the standard .223 barrel is a 1:12 twist, so it won't work with the heavy long-range bullets. We've used 55 gr. and plan to try something close to 60 gr. but I don't expect it's possible to go heavier than that. Since our favorite range goes to 300 yards we can probably live with it.

Spare mags are a little pricey, $64 MSR, and the scope dovetails are an oddball size so you'll need to use Tikka rings for around $40.

All in all, though it's a nice rifle - wifey is happy with it and consistently outscores me!

I've seen the Master Sporter in .223 but not all dealers carry all models. The Tikka's are very accurate rifles and a better choice in the price range than anything from Remington, Ruger, Savage, Browning and Winchester.

A light barrel Tikka .223 was my walking around varmint rifle for several years and I was very happy with it. I only departed with the rifle when I saw a Sako 75 in the same caliber. The Tikka is good, the Sako is amazing.

Thank you all for the info.

gconan- was that the master sporter or another Tikka? Did not know it could come with a synthetic stock.

From what I have seen, read and fondled the Master sporter seems like a good target rifle. Fits well in to my body type.
