Does The Mossberg 500 Have Threaded Barrels Available?

Hey everyone, just wanted to know if Mossberg sells barrels for their 500 that are threaded for choke tubes. If so, what choke tube options will I have available? Rifled, cylinder, improved and full choke are what I want. I have looked online briefly but found nothing. I bought a Mossberg 500 cruiser with an 18.5" barrel if that helps.

Short answer is yes. However, depending on your current configuration, you may have to replace the forend and magazine tube along with the barrel. This is because the magazine tube mounts are in different spots for different length barrels. Mossberg has the accu-choke set of chokes.

It may be more cost effective to pick up a Mossberg 500 field model as it will come with the threaded barrel and a set of chokes. If you shop around you could find that shotgun for little more than what parts would be to convert your cruiser model.

As said for the price of barrels you might just buy another new or used 500. Barrels tend to cost about $125 new but I don't think you will find rifled choke tubes.

thanks for the replies. Ill probably end up selling my 500 and getting something that both allows me to shoot 3 1/2" shells and allows for threaded barrels. should have done more research before buying!

Why do you think you need 3.5" ammo? Just curious.
Anyway, shop around. Mossberg barrels vary a whole lot in price from retailer to retailer. If the price is right but it says Maverick 88 on the package, it'll do nicely. M500's and M88's use the same barrels.
"...Barrels tend to cost about $125 new..." Where? Just curious.

Rifled tubes are a gimmick. I have never seen any of them improve accuracy. Use the foster slug that your particular barrel likes (shotgun barrels tend to be picky with one barrel like brand X and another barrel liking brand Y) and you'll be fine with just an I.C. tube.

If you do look at keeping the 500, I would recommend you call Mossberg directly if looking for barrels. They can tell you every barrel option available.
In fact I just ordered some more spare parts including another barrel with rifle sights just last week. 1-800-363-3555
It was about $40 cheaper than anywhere else I found.

I agree with Blindstitch. For a pump shotgun that takes 3.5" shells, Mossberg 835 is hard to beat. They can also usually be found frequently in the used gun rack at places like Cabela's.
I used to have several different shotguns, but it is now the only shotgun I own. It covers all of my bases, from hunting to home defense.

However I also agree with 75218ron, you also likely don't need 3.5" shells. The only reason I went with the 835 is occasional waterfowl hunting with my overbore barrel and goose loads, or the option for turkey loads should I ever decide to take up turkey hunting. And I didn't really need 3.5" for that.

What's your intended goal? Hunting? If so, what critters? Home defense? Clay busting or shooting competition?
