Does somebody make a lever-action .45 acp carbine?

I think this would be a lot of fun for plinking. Does anyone make such a thing? If so, does it work and is it any good? I remember reading that a round as low-pressure as the .45 wouldn't benefit much from a longer barrel velocity-wise. But I love it as a pistol round and it would be nice to be able to load one batch of ammunition for both.

I would have one if they did, but I don't so.. they don't to my knowledge make one.

There is always the, I believe, Auto Ordinance Thompson semi auto version of the Tommy gun. It's a bit on the pricy side though at over $700.00.

If you went to .45LC then you could have your pick of several.

H&K does make the semi auto version if that would be of any interest. It is a carbine. H&K USC .45 ACP.

Iffen I had more money than sense, buck would cover that, could get a bbl cut for a 30-06 Winchester 95, carbine length. Bolt face already right, rework magazine a tad.

Would want to load with a lot slower powder to take advantage of the long bbl. We had "sub machine gun only" available for Thompson in late 60s. Don't know how it worked cause I chose different weapon for my team. My #2 had gone out with thompson but didn't mention any difference in the ammo. He didn't carry .45 side arm so had no comparison.

Sam...if I survive, might try it again.

I can think of two problems with a .45 ACP levergun:

1) I don't think a levergun works well with rimless cartridges.

2) The most common .45 ACP round is hardball, which uses a round (semi-pointed) bullet. In a tubular magazine, the point of one round would rest on the primer of another. This could lead to a nasty chain reaction.

336 Marlin could probably be modified to take 45acp ..35 remington head is close if not the same ,,,99 Savage in 300 Savage,,, head would be close also, and has rotary mag.
long bolt throw might be a drawback, but no worse than 94 Win. in 44 mag.

Matt...reason I went for startin with the model 95 was it has been in service with rimless cartridges, 06 havin the same base as .45ACP. Also tho round nose work fine in tubular magazines, the 95 magazine is conventional layout, stack of em under the action. Bolt face already proper. Could be the biggest ugliest .45 around. The 95 is big and tough. Was available in several major calibers, including 30-06, 45-70 and .405 Winchester.

Friend just sent me a pic of 45-70 PISTOL with rotary mag.....oughta be good for the arthritus.

If you have the money a Savage 99 could probably be converted to 45 acp or 45 min mag for that matter.

The case head of a 45 acp is nominally the same as that of the 308/30-08/8x57 family of cartridges...you can make 45 brass from any those rifle calibers.

The Savage uses either rotorary mag in older guns or detachable normal mag in the newer guns. And is commonly chambered in 308 family of cartridges.
