Does Remington repair old shotguns?

I have an old 11-48, it was my grandfathers and I'm reluctant sending it off to get worked on either to a local gunsmith or to the gunsmith that works at the nearest gander mountain.

I thought about sending it to remington, but realize they might actually have it for a longer amount of time, and might not be able to fix it.

The issue I have with it is that I can not load any shells in the feed tube without the gun becoming jammed with a shell in the chamber and another half in the chamber half in the feed tube. It still functions fine loading one shell in the chamber and firing, it's just loading multiple shells is when it starts to malfunction.
 
You are probably SOL on sending it to Remington, the 11/48 is obsolete and has been for quite a few years. Certain parts such as the friction ring are very difficult to find, however offhand it sounds like you have a shell latch problem which any competent gunsmith can repair. Try your local 'smith, you might be pleasantly surprised. Goatwhiskers
 
I don't think Remington will even take your shotgun back at the factory for repair. I believe Remington only does factory repair on current production firearms. They will probably redirect you to some gunsmiths that repair older and obsolete Remington firearms, who may or may not have the replacement parts you need for your shotgun. A good local gunsmith, who knows what they are doing, can do about the same thing as the gunsmiths that Remington would direct you to. Finding a good gunsmith who's not slightly backed up on work may be as hard to find as the replacement parts for your shotgun.
 
About 20 yes ago I send a Remington Sportman 48. They did a complete refurbishing on it and said not to send it again due to a lack of spare parts.
 
Remington Arms isn't the same firearms company today that they were 20 years ago. You can contact Remington from their website, www.Remington.com, to confirm if they except non-current production Remington firearms at their factory for repairs. I'm not a betting man but if I were, my $$$ would be that they don't. That's why they have a list of places on their website that stock some of the parts for the Remington non-current production & obsolete firearms. Even those places listed on Remington's website are hit & miss with a 50/50 chance of having the replacement parts a person may need and I'm pretty sure Remington Arms doesn't make replacement parts for non-current & obsolete (to them) Remington firearms. There are some knowledgeable gunsmiths out there that are/have made replacement parts for these type of Remington firearms.
