Does Florida still issue CHLs to non-residents?

As far as I know they do.

I'm planning to send in the paper work and money soon. Go to packing dot org and under the state of florida you can find the link for the paperwork. It has to be mailed from some state place but I think you can request it all via the internet...

CWP is a little pricey... I think like 135 or so .... and you have to have proof of a class and some other stuff but then besides Florida you are covered by a lot of states... I have a friend in Il who has one.

GREAT!!! Now, next question is this. Suppose I got a "CWL" from florida tomorrow and then in a month moved from say Texas to Louisiana....would all I need to do is notify Florida gov't of my address change and they would send me a new license? Would I still be able to legally carry in between when all this is going on?

They still do and they are very helpful as well. If you have any questions pertaining to their process or their laws they will go out of their way to be helpful - at least that's my experience.

The only hang-up I had was I was required to resubmit my prints as all the digits on my right hand were amputated at least to the distal knuckle due to injuries received from a car-fire (damn drunk-driver:mad: ). Thus, I have no prints on my right hand. So even though I had to have them re-done they were helpful in giving me directions on how to do them - get a letter from the printing officer, send a picture of my hand, etc and it went through the second time with a quick turn-around.

To be precise, the top of mine reads:

"CONCEALED WEAPONS OR FIREARMS LICENSE
STATE OF FLORIDA"

Now if that is not a license, I'd like to know what it is.

you know that's interesting because I was talking to a gun dealer I know over here in Texas who goes to my church the other day and another fellow walks up hearing us talking and asks why it is okay for him to have a GUN on him but he can't have a certain KNIFE. The reason is that the Texas CHL is a Concealed HANDGUN License, not weapons in general. That being said, I wonder if the Florida license would allow me to carry a certain kind of knife...probably not since Texas doesn't have any kind of weapons in general permit that I know of. Switchblade knives, knives beyond 4 inches (or is it 6?), butterfly knives or anything else that is gravity or spring assisted are illegal. I understand in San Antonio those huge folding knives are even illegal by city ordinence.

Just ordered a Concealed Weapons or Firearms license application online. Says it take 90 days to process it once getting the info back???? Sheesh, does that go for people who have already gone through it and have CHLs in their homestates?
By the time 90 days have passed, my address might very well change.

Since I will be moving from my parents home, I guess I can technically retain their address as one of my own and use my Texas CHL....is that legal for handgun license purposes?

They have 90 days to either issue or deny the permit. It usually takes about 45-60 days. the renewal usually takes about 14-30 days.

IC. Does the fact that I have already taken a CHL or CWP course in Texas make any difference in the amount of time it takes?

You're correct....this time. It's a "license", not a "licence".

you know Ausserordeutlich out of 2 posts on here that's all you've had to add was criticizing an error in spelling. How about adding something informative to the forum??

Now having said that, I have a question if you have reciprocity with a state that means you can carry with your state permit while in that state, but what does it mean when it says a state "honors" your permit. On packing.org they have both those terms listed on different states.

but what does it mean when it says a state "honors" your permit.

What it means is that in certain states, regardless of your state of residence, they will accept your Florida CCW. For example, a person living in California can get a CCW and carry concealed in any of the states that accept a Florida CCW with the exception of Michigan and New Hampshire.

Hkmp5sd,
Are you certain about that? I have a CCW permit in my home state of New York who of course reciprocates with no one but I do have non-resident CCW permits in Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Maine and Florida. So if I understand you correctly, my non-resident permits are accepted by other states that reciprocate with Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Maine or Florida.

I guess the magic word is reciprocate, which New York State does not do with anyone.

Florida and Texas recognize each other

Recent trip to Pensacola.....All cool through Lousiana, Mississippi, but Alabama
does not or Texas does not recognize Alabama. Alabama recognizes New Hampshire Non Resident which costs $20 and recognizes Texas.

Did not enter the bowels of the ghetto of Pensacola but around town, Southern Hospitality, Black, White, and Brown , as well as US Navy were outstanding. I began to leave .45 in motel. Wonderful people, curteous, friendly, and I'd go back!

Yeah, there's bound to be bad spots but I didn't seek them and assume that the LEOS there do a fantastic job!

I'm talking about the Florida permit ONLY.

Generally, what they are talking about is two states will accept each other's CCW. The CCW that Florida issues is the same for residents and non-residents. The only difference being the address of the person listed. Only Michigan and New Hampshire have come out and stated they will accept the Florida CCW if the address listed is in Florida.

Many people get Florida CCWs just to carry in states that their own CCW doesn't cover, with no intention of ever going to Florida.

BTW, the Florida CCW is now accepted in 29 other states! :)
