Does anyone shoot a s&w 625 in 45acp ?

I saw a vintage one this week, and am interested.
I already do 45acp, so no new calibers....
I think. S&w. is going to start making them again...

I know it is vintage, and cannot compete with more modern 357, 44 mag, etc
Input ?

I've never owned a revolver..just semiautos pistols

If I'm not hallucinating they are very popular, and very sought after.

I think the competition shooters (I can't remember which "game") love 'em. They use the moon clips for fast reloads and it meets a power level that works well for them.

Someone will be along momentarily to call me a liar if I'm wrong.

I own a 4 and a 5 inch 625. Being stainless steel they are not really vintage but rather a very modern current production revolver. They are capable of extreme accuracy and have dominated the USPSA & IDPA divisions they are allowed in over the years past. Moon clips work great and speed reloading significantly. A good demooner tool is all that is needed. I prefer the steel moon clips because I come from a competition background. There is also .45 auto rim brass available. That is largely a handloading proposition as factory loads are very limited. I don't really like .44 mag. full power loads anymore so the .45 ACP can be made to do pretty much everything I need done these days.

I have one of the 625's and love it. Mine is a 625 Mountain gun chambered in 45Colt and I had it cut for moon clips and now it shoots both 45acp & Colt. The 625 is a very popular gun and is a pleasure to shoot, It is one that you can shoot all day long with out any problems. If its priced right then I would get it for sure.

Great guns. Mine was my PPC gun and I shot consistent 590s with it. The only work I had done was chamfer the cylinder just a wee bit and put a spring kit in it. Will never sell it.

The 5" and 4" 625 are the guns for USPSA and IDPA (ESR class) competition, respectively. They're also very fun to shoot at the range. Having a mooner/demooner helps keep it fun. They'd also make a dandy HD gun.

Note that USPSA will soon allow 8-shot revolvers to play as well, and this will likely be the new hot set-up. I predict used (and tuned) 5" 625s will start showing up for sale with more frequency, so keep your eyes open.

Not sure what you mean by "vintage" but I like the 45 ACP revolvers a lot. I'm getting too old to chase brass from the bottom feeders.

I had one back in the late 70's, a model 25 in blue steel. It had a 6 1/2" barrel. I loved shooting it , and I regret, to this day, selling it.

Have a 625PC 4" great gun. FAR more accurate than I ever will be, and it likes about anything you feed it. Feels like a heavy 38 when shooting it. I use the plastic RIMZ full moon clips for practice and the metal full moon clip for competition and HD.

Only thing I would like to do to mine is find a "night sight" front sight.

I have a 625-8, so the gun has been around for quite awhile. I shoot it in ICORE, USPSA, and IDPA. A hoot to shoot and picking up brass is simple, 6 pieces at once.

I have a weakness for .45 Smith & Wesson revolvers

The 625 is a 5 inch and has a wonderful action job and polished trigger. Everyone I let shoot it tries to buy it from me. No dice.

S&W 625JM

I have a current model 625JM 4"bbl in stainless, and had a 325 in Scadium (black Night Guardian) snubby.
I use the steel moon clips.

The 625JM is nice and accurate. It's a magnificent wheel gun to my way of thinking.

I can also plink all my out of spec reloads with it that won't feed reliably through my 1911's.

Recently I saw a blue 25-2 with a 6&1/2" barrel from probably the seventies at a local gun shop. Sweet trigger pull! Might have to go back and drool on that one some more.

I'm not going to post pictures of my 45 ACP revolvers as I've already bored the members with those any number of times (smile). I will say that I sincerely believe the 45 ACP is the best revolver cartridge for my purposes, which are primarily self-defense oriented. None of the blast and recoil of the Magnums but still large bore terminal performance, and the fastest reload in the revolver world.

YMMV,
Dave

PS: Vintage? Good grief! I was a seasoned in competition, Model 25-2 shooter when the 625 was first introduced. Makes me feel like some old geezer…said the old geezer.

My favorite 45 acp's are revolvers. Started when I shot my best friends father's 1917 S&W ( that's a vintage revolver ) in 45 acp with military hardball in half moon clips ( this was in the 1960's ). The latest is a Taurus 455, 2 inch barreled, snub nosed, 5 shot 45 acp . I do have 1911's and they are fine, but the revolvers are my favorites. Get that 625, you will not regret it.
