Does Anyone Have a Sig P225? Help...

I ran across a new P225, 9mm for $499 at a gun shop. Can anyone that has one of these tell me how they like it and why.

I have a P226, P228, P229, (2) P220's and I'm trying to find out if there is a reason to get the P225. I would not carry it, because for the same size, I can carry a G19.

I guess I'm hoping someone can talk me into it. Is $499 a good price?

(I wish Sig would bring out a P220 with a stainless slide/Nitron finished and alloy frame...)

Thanks,
Steve

Hello. I've owned several SIG-Sauer handguns over the years, but currently have but two, a P220 and a P225.

I've owned 3 of these at one time or another and all have proven, easy to carry, utterly reliable, and quite accurate. Not normally a fan of DA/SA pistols, I DO like these.

Sights are usable right out of the box and in my admittedly limited personal experience with these pistols, well-regulated out of the box.

I think that $400 to $450 is reasonable for a new one.

Best.

Does anyone know what dealer cost is on these? It only had the standard sights and was blued.

Thanks again,
Steve

Steve, the last wholesale price I saw was $470.00 The 225 just fits my hand better than any other gun. It shoots as if I am just pointing my finger at the target.

You need a reason to get a SIG? Because it's there. Because you can. Just because.

I have a P226, P228, P229, P220, P239 and a P225. The P225 felt a little small in my large hands at first, but I like the feel a little more everytime I pick it up.

How's this for a reason: if you don't get it, think about how many times you will kick yourself over the next 10 years. To paraphrase Warren Miller's ski films, if you don't get a P225 now, you'll just be that much older when you do get one. And it will be that much more expensive then. P225s are like real estate: they don't make any more.

The 225 will no longer be made. So, if you want one, now's the time. I bought mine from a friend that purchased it new for about $450.

Phillip, just who was it that told you that the P225 "will no longer be made"? Did your "source" explain why the P225 is still currently in production but "will no longer be made"?

That same crap has been repeated about the P228 as well.

The P225 will hide under a Tux when a Glock 19 will cause a bulge. How's that for a reason to buy one?:D

499$ isn't a bad price. I bought mine for 479$ about six or seven months ago.

Bought mine 3 months ago in SW/Pa for $385.00
Included the usual 2 mags , night sights and
K-Kote finish
There are markings on the gun to let you know when it was built
Mine was 1990
I added PAC rubber grips I found on EBay for around $20.00 plus.
Most posters on the Sig Forum say the gun just fells better in their hands because of the single stack.
i think mine sat in someones drawer for 10 years because it had almost no wear......... This gun is destined to be a classic listen to the other posters and get it you won't be disappointed.

By the way it's a great shooter too!

Good Luck

Picking up on what blades said, there does seem to be some confusion over the production status of the 225 and 228.

For the record, both guns are STILL in production for the civilian market. SIG has NO immediate plans to eliminate either. Eventually, down the road, I do believe that the 225 and 228 will fade away in favor of the 229....but not for a couple of years at least.

For years I never saw a P225 in the flesh but in the last few months I've seen several brand new ones. And there seems to be new P228s appearing as well.

You need the P225.

Because pulling a P225 from a fine piece of Galco leather is like unsheathing Excalibur from the stone--it fits your hand so perfectly that it makes you feel like a king.

The G19 might be many things, but it's ergonomics will never remind you of a 225.

The one true Sig.

I dont think the 225 serves any particular purpose not already filled by other guns in Sig's line.

I think when somebody said G19 they were onto something...

My name is Mike, I'm a SIG-o-holic. I have five, including a 225. It just plain feels good in hand and shoots very well. I have a 228 also, but the deuce and a quarter just feels so right, it's an emotional thing, no need for logic.;)

I bought one several months ago, pretty much "because it was there". My first Sig. At $469, I just couldn't pass it up. It took a few hundred rounds to begin working flawlessly (at first it was failing to lock open on an empty mag, and throwing the empty brass back at my face). After a few hundred rounds, those two glitches cleared up and it's been perfect. I like the thinner grip. I don't carry it (at least not yet), but I may in the future.

The P225 is probably the most underrated P-series SIG of them all....when it came out, everyone was in love with the double-stack wondernines, and folks didn't have much use for a single-stack 9mm. Sales of the P225 were slow as a result. The new P239 fills the niche left by the P225 now, but it has a much shorter grip which doesn't fit big hands nearly as well as the P225.

I got lucky and bought one NIB w/ 3 mags for $425.

A gun shop near me had one for $520.

I haven't shot it yet, but everytime I hold it it feels better and better in my hand. I thought my 228 felt perfect until I bought this one.

Everyone feels undergunned with only 8+1 rounds,
but my Father was in the Secret Service for 25 years and never carried anything more than a 6 shot 38 special. Granted, that was 20 years ago, but I think that having 12 or 15 rounds isn't always necessary. I put more emphasis on practice and training.

They will not be going out of production...SIG plans to import about 2500 per year into the states.

Wonderful pistol, feels like it was made for me. So much so that I have two...one k-Kote, one factory two-tone.

I'm not a SIGaholic, I can quit buying them anytime I want to...I just don't want to!

Just To Play Devil's Advocate-

I have owned four Sig's; P220, P226, P228. and P229. Of
these, I find that the P220 and the P228 are the best for
me.:D As you can see, I've never owned the P225; but
have always wanted one. However, the grip of the P220
fit's me perfect; just like it came from the factory.
I may forsee another Sig in my future shortly; perhaps
it might be the P225? Go for it!:) Cuz if you don't, you
will be kicking yourself in the rear end from now on.

Best Wishes,
