Folks, I have some Promo powder that I would like to use, for 9mm loads, underneath either a 124 or 147 copper plated bullet. Does anyone have a good, tested load that you can recommend ? Thanks so very much in advance!
Alliant say to load Promo using Red Dot data (same weight charges).
For a 125 gr, the 2000 Alliant manual goes to 4.5 gr of Red Dot with a 1.15" OAL for 1145 fps.
For a 147 gr, the 2000 Alliant manual goes to 3.4 gr of Red Dot with a 1.14" OAL for 894 fps.
I loaded 120 and 125 powder coated cast with Promo. These were just target loads and I was happy with 3.9 gr. This was just enough to give me good cycling in a Glock 17.
That's because you have to buy it 8 lbs at a time, and each pound loads a lot. So handgunners don't tend to buy it. I mostly use it in .45 Colt and sometimes .38 Special. I have tried it in 9mm and it worked just fine in my BHP (but nothing spectacular) but I don't recall the load data.
