Does anyone convert 3" to 3.5"?

On an 870---even if it was safe to do----you would still have problems with the bolt and ejection port. That's why Remington redesigned the whole thing to handle 3.5in shells.
Wally's around here sells synthetic Super Mags new for $305----seems like it would be cheap enough to get a whole new gun---compared to what the gunsmith would charge you.

I have had 2.75" chambers opened to 3", on stoutly built guns...
If it were a VERY stoutly built single shot, I MIGHT think about it, (if NEF 10 Ga. guns weren't so darned cheap) but I wouldn't try it at all in a pump, double, or semi-auto... (not that it'd eject from a pump or semi, anyway)
with a double, I think the extra hard hit might seperate the barrels and wreak havoc...

you don't need to open op the chamber to work with your reciever, unless you plan on shooting 3.5 inch shells in it.
The guys nailed it, Chang. Use the short bbl with whatever shell lengths are listed on it, and use the 3.5" chambered bbl for the howitzer rounds.
Trust me, the shotload from a 2 3/4", 1200 FPS shell doesn't exactly bounce off perps and fall uselessly to the floor.
I've survived one war, three prison riots and a coupla Cub Scout overnight camping trips, but I dunno if I'm ready to deal with the blast and flash of a 3.5" shell from a riot bbl. A standard 00 duty round can be quite impressive when uncorked in low light.
And, if I had a dollar for every goose or duck I've taken with dinky li'l 2 3/4" rounds, I might be shooting Kolars instead of old 870s.
