Does anybody use a belt slide for a revolver?

I'm considering this holster for my 6" N frame:

Belt Slide Holster

I have several belt slide holsters that I use for a variety of different pistols, all made by Galco. I like them because they are really handy and easy to use. On the other hand they are not, IMHO, the best kind of holster to use for concealed carry unless you can use an untucked shirt or some other type of over garment. But, in general, they are a fine, functional holster. Good shooting;)

I have that particular Hume holster for my Glock 21 and it is first-rate. I have some other belt-slide holsters that I use when camping/hiking and carrying a revolver. The open bottom should mean one holster for a each frame size regardless of barrel length. IMO they are great for 3" or longer barrels, but unfortunately, they will not properly secure a snub without a stap.

Best to ya,

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to buy one.

I actually have two belt slides, one for my CZ-75 and one for my 1911 (Got a good deal on that one in the classifieds right here @TFL). I like them a lot but just wasn't sure how well they'd work for a big N-frame.

Belt slide holsters

I prefer the Desantis #2. Here is a pic of my N-frame nestled in it.
The #2 keeps the gun tight against the body for easy concealment and protects the barrel.

By way of comparison, here is a pic of my Taurus J-frame in a Bianchi "Black Widow". There again, I prefer a holster that protects the barrel.

The DeSantis #2 can be had at http://www.rfholsters.com/rfholsters/default.asp? for very little denero!!! :D

I do not get on with IWB and so OWB is my choice ..... and then it comes down to belt-slide, and hi-ride ... with good fwd cant. I have a rig that will take 4" N Frame but forget make ... don't use it a lot.

However - my EDC rig is this one, with SP-101 ... from Jim Burke outa Paris TX ... sadly he died last year. It sits high .. cant is great and it holds in close to body ... as near perfect as I can imagine. Hard to beat it... and a light weight vest provides all the concealment needed.

Yes I Use Alessi Belt Slides Proudly

Lou Alessi was kind enough to make a pair of belt slide holsters for me -- one in brown and another in black -- that hold my 3-inch Model 66 high, tight, and canted just perfectly to blend it into my hip. I often forget it's even there.

I dropped into his store in Tonawanda. I actually found it quite by surprise. I pulled an illegal U-turn across three lanes of traffic to make sure I wasn't seeing things. He's a very gracious host and to be able to say that I've had the tour is an honor. He has a repeat customer in me. His "brag case" of letters, mementos, and relics from clients is absolutely incredible.

I carry my 2 1/2" S&W mdl 66 in a Galco High Ride holster. i find it is a very practical ccw option if, that is, you wear is under an un-tucked shirt or coat, much like was said above. the holster does not add much bulk, and to my surprise, keeps the weapon fairly tight to my body, eliminating much of the noticible outline. not too heavy either.

Good Shooting

Is it just me or are some people grouping the true belt slide holsters together with the pancake holsters?
I always thought the belt slide holster basically left the grip and barrel exposed using just minimum coverage for support.

I am probably guilty of some ''overlap'' ... thing is ... to me a belt-slide is - well, just that! A rig with two slots for belt and the option for placement of said rig at anypoint along that belt. Loops permitting! :p

Literally tho yeah I guess you're right re exposed barrel etc. Still comes down to same final deal tho ..... ''what works''. :)

The real thing...

I have a very slim TripleK beltslide and a DeSantis pancake holster for my Taurus M85. Both are designed to fit either the Taurus or the S&W J-frames.

The pancake really holds the gun in close which helps reduce printing, but the belt slide holds it up higher, allowing a shorter covering garment. I have been amazed at how well the beltslide hangs on to the gun. When I first got it, I thought the thing would eject that revolver every time I moved, but it turned out to be a nice, secure carry option.

I use a Mitch Rosen 5G slide. Primarily with a 21/2 in. Mod 19,but it's open bottom so it will take 4 in. or longer in the same frame size. Slight forward cant and very secure riding.

I don't care for MOST of the current crop of belt slides - - -

- - I fear the makers are trying to grab another tiny bit of the market by selling "all purpose" holsters, and making their slides so that the handgun rides straight up-and-down, without any cant at all. This makes it easy to wear cross draw, yes, but the butt prints noticably when worn on the strong side.

I appreciate that many believe it is a bit faster to draw with a straight up motion, without breaking the wrist to access a butt-forward cant. This is okay for competetion, I suppose, but it is painfully obvious when an IDPA shooter wears such a rig on the street under a lightweight cover garment.

There are a great many excellent concealment holsters available, but sometimes you have to search for them. ;)

Best,
Johnny

One thing you need to be careful of when wearing a belt slide and jeans with brads is finish wear. I put a "wear spot" on my Combat Commander carrying it just once in a belt slide. That's why I now prefer a pancake design instead.

I often carry my L and K frames in a Don Hume belt slide. I also carry my Springfield Ultra Compact in a belt slide too, with no problems. They may not look as nice as a pancake but they have their advantages too, in areas where you have to doff your gun to go to court, school or a church.

denfoote:

That holster for your taurus doesn't cover the trigger..
doesn't that scare you a little bit?
I mean, isn't that half the point of having a holster.. to keep a gun not only securely, but _safely_ attached to you?
