Does anybody remember this sight?

I was asking about a Ruger that was grouping high. The front sight needs to be raised.

Somebody mentioned a particular aftermarket sight that could be used.

I lost that info. Anybody remember what it was?

I'm sorry. I didn't realize I wasn't making sense. I sure made sense in my brain, though.

It's an old model Super Blackhawk and the front sight is soldered onto the barrel. Somebody suggested an aftermarket front sight to raise the front blade.

I was hoping that person would read this cause I can't find his post.

.

AFAIK, Old Model SBH front sights are in one piece with it's ramp, and the only way to get a higher front sight is to either build the blade higher with weld & dress it square; or cut off the blade & mill a groove in the ramp parallel to the bore for a new/higher sight blade.

However - before you go changing sights, it might be worth reviewing how the specific cartridge loads, and/or holding methods, can effect the boolits POI.

With most .44 Mag handguns, factory 240gr loads will shoot to the sights, but light(er) loads will impact higher because the boolit stays in the barrel a bit longer due to the load's slower velocity, all the while the barrel's rising from recoil - so if you're shooting low-powered (comparatively) loads, I would suggest first tryng full-power loads.

As to holding methods - while it's proper procedure to allow the barrel to rotate upward to facilitate cocking for a follow-up shot, some folks hold the SA revolver a bit too loosely, allowing the bbl to over-rotate, throwing the POI higher than normal/zero.

Same goes for changing bullet weights...

240's shoot to sights, where 300's will impact higher, and 180's will impact lower...

Was it the Bowen sights?

Thanks for the link. I'll definitely have to check out those options.

BTW, it wasn't the Bowen. The sight somebody suggested had a pinned in front sight.

I've checked all my threads. It might have been somebody else's thread I posted in. On another forum. In a dream. ?
