This week's episode features M80 ball from a 22" barrel M1A and M855 ball from a 16" barrel AR into a 55 gallon drum full of water. You know the drill. Place your bets. Which cartridge, if either, do you think will pass through the barrel?

Hmmmm...I guessed neither of them would go through. As for .357 and 38 Special, I also would have predicted not even close to getting through.

Clearly I need to do more water barrel testing of my own.

I do recall as a lad being quite surprised at how much elm tree a .30-06 ball round would go through, and how much steel plate it could punch a hole through. The 55 gal barrel is still a surprise to me. Seems to me members of the A-Team were generally successful at using such barrels (and car doors) for cover. Happily, I don't get my firearms knowledge from old episodes of that show.

I guessed they both would. What ammo were you using in 5.56? I wonder if m855 would hold together better.
