DOB of an older 686?

I've got an older 4" S&W 686, I see no dash on the model number. The serial number is AAR3xxx. Anybody have any idea of when it was manufactured? Just curious...

I noticed your request, and was able to field your inquiry. :)

Looks like your Smith & Wesson model 686 was made between
Oct. 1982 and Dec. of that same year; as the serial number
range ran from AAF-9000 thru ABL-3999 for that period. Hope
this helps?

Much Appreciated! I figured it was somewhere in the early '80's, but I don't have access to "The Book", so I couldn't verify it.
