Currently a close tie with 50% do, and 48% don't (all gun types).

Pretty much a statistical dead heat. I would bet that if the results showed a sizable majority of Yes responses they will never be released.

Still 50.8/49.2. I found it interesting that after voting they have a disclaimer under the results stating: "This is not scientific and only shows the opinions of the respondents". Opinions? What did I miss here? If it is asking do you use a gun to protect yourself you either do or you don't. It didn't ask what your opinion was. Sounds to me like they are already covering themselves in case the results aren't what they want.

I think the reason that they post that disclaimer is that this poll is done in a purely informal way. There is no adjustment or weighting based on the ethnicity, affluence, part of the country, etc that would be required for it to truly be representative of the country.

Instead it is only representative of the people who have internet access, care enough about the topic to voice their position, understand the language the questions was posted in, and many other little nit-picky things that make it not a scientific evaluation or a statistical certainty.

I personally think that its great that even 50% of those who responded own firearms for their defense! I would have guessed that the actual number accross america is far lower... I vaugely remember that there are 80 million gun owners or something like that? As a percentage of the population that is far more like 30-35% not 50%. I am all in favor of polls that exagerate gun ownership! :]
