Do you carry while bow hunting?

I never have before, but last year I was walking to one of my stands that was in a creekbottom along a field. I crossed the field well before dawn and as I entered the brush 2 dogs started going nuts, maybe 20 yards from me. I pulled an arrow from my quiver and started yelling at them, saying firmly NO and GO HOME! I backed away carrying the arrow in my right hand. They followed me most of the way back to my truck. If one would have attacked, even if I was able to stab him perfectly with an arrow he still could have tore me up, let alone two of them. I would have had no chance. I know legally here in Indiana, you can carry during archery season with a LTCH, but you can't use it except for self defense, can't even shoot squirrels. I'm thinking this year the compact 9 will be on my hip.

Once I get my permit I will be carrying while archery hunting. We have some areas with wild dogs also. Better safe than sorry.

Huge piece of legislation that got passed a couple years ago for us in Wyo. Yep,,I carry. We have pack animals as well as critters bigger than us w/ teeth and claws. There are a few 2legged vermin out there too.

AZ bowhunting rule change

Not LAW yet but close enough. From the AZ Game and Fish Website
"In January 2009, Commission Rule R12-4-318 was proposed by the Commission to be amended to include carrying of non-hunting handguns for personal protection and safety for “archery-only” and “muzzleloader-only” seasons. Unfortunately the Governor has placed a temporary moratorium on all rulemaking and until the amendments are approved by the Governor, the law will remain unchanged. Therefore the Department is allowing for hunters to carry non-hunting handguns for the reasons listed above until the proposed rule change has been approved."

So for now yes but read up on what is allowed, I think shorter than 6" barrell and no scopes or electronic sights.

Yes.

I carry while bow hunting. This is my preferred woods time sidekick.

Definitely. I have had a problem with trespassers/poachers. I don't think I want to take them on with one arrow. I feel much more secure with my handgun which is legal with a CCW in VA.

I carry all the time. My Concealed Weapons Permit allows me to carry during all hunting seasons (muzzleloader and archery included). As long as it isn't used to take game during those seasons, theres no problem. I am always armed in the woods..........too many two legged predators out there for me to go unarmed.

ILLLEGAL to do so in NY state. However, unless the DEC officer search's you, how exactly is he going to know you are conceal carrying. Personally i would carry. The law is to prevent people from shooting a deer w/ a gun, throwing an arrow through it, and claiming they bagged it with a bow. However as with most all laws, if you are going to do that which is non sportsman like, you aren't going to care if there is a law there or not.

Kind of like the person that is going to commit murder, but will some how be stopped because he dosen't want to violate the law that says he can't own a gun since he's been a convicted felon

I've been carrying my my compact taurus 45...I hadn't hunted since getting my CHP, but I've now started carrying while scouting or hunting. You just never know what kind of unfriendly you may run into. Bow or Gun, it's always nice having a backup there by your side.

I would if it were legal in Washington State. We have lots of Black bear, cougars, and some wolves and grisslies. It should be legal. Fish and Game is afraid we will drop the animal with the sidearm and stick an arrow in the bullet channel.

Always

I always carry while bowhunting. I hunt my own land and run into tresspassers and poachers from time to time. Usually one or two tense encounters per year. These encounters are decreasing. I believe that my obvious preparedness (I carry open on my own land) has become known to the ner-do-wells in my area.
