Do you carry different guns based on what you're doing that day?

Disclaimer: I really just want someone to justify me buying a pair of glocks.

As a new CCW holder/armed citizen I have acquired a PPQ and PPS. Beautiful guns. I get that they're tools and all that but I find myself babying them. I cringe at the thought of dropping them on a gravel road etc. It's not that they can't hold up to the abuse, I just don't think they should be subjected to it.

So, seeing that the G19 and G26 were extremely close runner ups in my carry gun selection, I am thinking of purchasing them as my "utilitarian" guns. If I'm doing something like mountain biking, running around the woods etc with a high risk of getting dirty I'll take the glocks. If I'm just running around town or at the office I'll carry the Walther's.

It makes sense in my head at least. Does anyone else think like this?

Your title is a bit misleading. I do carry different guns based on what I am doing, but it's a function of if one night print more than the other or if I am limited weight wise.

If you shoot a firearm better, in this case the Walthers over the Glocks, carry that gun. There is no reason to baby it. They are not overly expensive, out of production, nor fragile.

I carry a Ruger LCP in a pocket holster when I really need the gun to be hidden. If I have a littel more flexibility, but still want to pocket carry I might go with a S&W 442. On most days I go with a GLOCK G26 in an IWB holster and it just seems to disappear. If concealment is not important I’ll probably go with either my SIG P229 or H&K USP40.

So, yes most of us have different guns for different applications and yes you need to go buy some more guns. :D

What gun I carry as well as how I carry it depends on the attire at hand. Summer time shorts and t shirt, a smaller auto IWB.
Winter time with coat, larger auto either IWB or OWB.

Etc. I dress for the occasion. As said above, it's not a keepsake, if it was you wouldn't take it out of the house. Use it as intended and don't worry about dropping it. If you drop your CCW, you're doing it wrong...

I shoot both very well, only reason I went with the PPQ over the G19 is the better trigger. Although even then, it didn't limit my ability to get tight groups down range. I might as well have flipped a coin.

The PPQ and G19 would be my winter set-up and the PPS and G26 would be for summer weather.

Yes, I have a .380 for everyday, work and stuff (90% of the time). If I take a trip or go fishing etc, I have a .40. If I'm really going way out on a trail or something, I have a .45.

I have a .38 special for when only a pocket pistol will do. Like having to dress up (rare).

The thing to do, is practice. It is irresponsible to carry anything you aren't good at. I won't carry any gun I haven't shot in the last 3 months or one I wasn't satisfied with my last range trip. Currently that excludes the .45

So, you need an excuse for more guns?

...and yes you need to go buy some more guns...

That's right... Any "reason" will do!... Personally, I'd go for something better-looking than a block... but that's just me... Maybe try ONE first if you must... not TWO. You can always get another a month or so later when you've had time to evaluate and reflect.

I do because of what I wear. I wear a faux button up shirt with the hidden zipper inside and no actual buttons. I am extremely skinny and work with customers all day, and the majority of those customers all live in the worst places you could imagine. So I carry a 15 round 9mm under shoulder. Ex. The gas station I go to every morning for free coffee was robbed two nights ago, they didn't take money, a GROUP of guys walked in, shot the two employees anf stole cartons of kools and newports. That kind of area.

I am pretty comfortable around my neighborhood and usually just toss revolver in my pocket, one its easier than strapping on an under shoulder everytime I leave the house. I do sometimes worry if five would be enough in certain situations, but that's a risk I am willing to take for convenience.

I can't justify spending hundreds of dollars on something that won't get used, so yup, I need an excuse/justification/use for more guns.

Just wondering if others are the same way.

As for getting something better looking, I've been down this road before and Walther was first with Glocks a close second. Xdm's are out, M&P's are out, Sig P320 is out, anything hammer is out.

I have three carry guns: Small, Medium and Large. Each has its role in the carry rotation, and the decision as to which I carry depends on my wardrobe and activity.

So yes, I do carry different guns based on what I'm doing that day.

I cringe at the thought of dropping them on a gravel road etc.
What makes you think you'd do that?
I haven't dropped a gun on a road since I was about 10 years old, when one fell off my bicycle

I think a lot of us have multiple handguns from which to choose based upon weather/clothing and situation. In the winter, I mostly carry a 1911 in .45 but sometimes a revolver or small 9mm in a pocket. In the summer, I often carry a .380. I'm more likely to carry "light" if I'm just driving to and from the office. If I'm going to be more "exposed" like waiting in a car, walking in commercial parking lots or in the downtown area, then I'll usually carry a bit "heavier."

Yeah, dropping the gun on a gravel road was definitely a dumb scenario but its the first thing that came to mind. You get the idea.

Dropped mone on the sidewalk a couple months ago. Walking inside from my car carrying computer and other junk. I posted a thread with the damage, was pretty significant and not only superficial damage

As most others have stated, what I carry goes with the attire of the day.
Mostly right now it's been my LCP in my coat pocket. ;)

yes. for concealed carry, I pack my XDM45C if I'm wearing lots of heavy clothing because I can get away with it. if I'm wearing less clothing or more form fitting clothing then I wear my SR9C.

if I'm open carrying it makes little difference either way but I usually end up with the XDM as I normally only open carry in the wood for bear, wolves and puddytats.
