Do You Carry a Gun if You...

I hope you guys wanted this thread open...anyway, Vega, I hope you didn't assume that my informative post had anything to do with drinking and carrying. Rather, I like to carry when I go to a restaurant, and I happen to go to restaurants with a bar in them. I don't drink while carrying.

carry where you want to. what have you got to lose? your permit, your right to purchase and to own, in some states your citizenship (felony), your professional credentials if your are one (doctor, nurse, xray tech, engineer, ect.), your reputation. of course you may lose your life, if you don't carry but then you may lose your life even if you do carry. tough question huh? of course if you behave and are properly concealed who will know? i was in a bar/resturant one evening when i saw a couple come in. he drew my attention as i pegged him as a cop. he looked the type. dress, hair, attitude ect. as he was pulling out the chair for his lady friend to sit down he knocked a menu off the table. as he bent over to get it there was a horrible noise as his Beretta fell out of some unseen holster and skidded on the Mexican tile floor. the entire bar saw this and the mumuring was a dull roar as he retrived his weapon and reholstered it. thank God for passive firing pin blocks. i heard him try to explain to the waiter and manager that ran over that he was a cop and was in control. HUH. the manager asked him to take his weapon out of the bar, the cop said they were leaving and a red faced cop and an embarrased girl friend walked out. if he had not been an LEO i think the manager would have called the law for sure. food for thought.

Greetings Frontsight, Here in Alabama your
license is null and void, in places that
serve alcohol. Just a little FYI. :)

Ditto, null and void in NC, in those places where alcohol is served. (And anywhere that admission is charged, and a bunch of other places, too.)

As always, check your local law before carrying into an establishment which serves alcohol.

IMHO, the laws against carry into certain locales (e.g., sports stadiums, bars, universities, etc.) are based upon the premise as all other gun control laws -- that persons cannot be trusted to exercise prudent judgement with lethal weapons in those places. Paternalism, pure and simple. They should be viewed with with same disdain as the assault weapon ban and the high-capacity magazine ban.

Here in Pennsylvania, there is no law that prohibits carry with a CCL in bars or the like. There is similarly, to my knowledge, no law against carrying with a certain BAC or similar kinderspiel. So use your own judgment and carry where you like -- and that includes getting sloshed from time to time if that's your preference.

Not legal advice or a legal opinion,

Justin

Here we go again...
Agree w/ JTHuang, just use common sense, and check to see what the Laws in your area are. In Texas, you can carry as long as the business doesn't derive 51% of total sales from alcohol, so in a restaurant, you're good to go. Also racetrack/dogtrack, and amusement parks are off-limits, as well as schools & churches,
Go figure

Cowboy - I believe here in Texas the only amusement park you can't carry in is Six Flags (CHL law was written giving them a specific exemption) and you can carry in church if it's not posted otherwise. Correct me if I'm wrong.

RKBA!

I know that many states prohibit carrying in places like resturants, schools, the workplace. The very places where you are most likely to need to defend yourself.I have been thinking about getting a concealed permit...but now I wonder if its worth it.

Each state is unique. In Minnesota you can carry in ANY bar, but no matter where you are you can't have ONE sip. Your permit becomes invalid and that can include some medications.
Some won't allow carry in any place beer or booze is served and or sold. So you better find out what it is where YOU live. Don't ask a cop. Go right to a state AG's office or County Attorney.

Ala Dan and Walt Sherril, I dodn't have reciprocity in NC or AL, so why would I care about that anyway? All I did was check MY local laws and tell the COLORADANS about it! I don't drink when I carry, but I will NOT let a drunk whose carrying and getting rowdy ruin my life, so therefore, I will continue to carry in restaurants, and I will not drink.

It is my understanding that in Florida you can carry in a restaurant as long as you are not seated in the area which primary serves alcohol -- meaning, you can't sit in the bar section of the restaurant.
