on your cary pistols do you chamber a round, then load your mag to max?
IE:15+1, 8+1, etc?

i just load up the 9rds that fit into my xd40 sub mag. i dont bother loading another round in the mag to give me 9+1(10)

Huh?

By reading your signature line why would you not add the extra round and fill the mag to quote you.
anything that can go wrong, will go wrong, at the worst possible time.

The only problem with the +1 capacity issue would be the excessive tension on the magazine spring over prolonged periods of time. Personally, when I carry, I do not fully load the magazines. My mags carry 11, but I usually only load 8 total (7 in mag and 1 in the pipe). Every week or so, I change out mags and empty the one that was in the pistol... I don't know if it really matters much, but I do know that when you stress (or warp) a spring over a long period of time, the fist 5 or 6 rounds will feed correctly, but the remaining rounds may "slack" when feeding, causing a possible stove-pipe or jam... sounds good in theory anyways... better to be safe and know your pistol will work correctly when you need it... Just my thoughts

Ah popycock! All you are doing is shorting yourself rounds of possible needed ammo:eek:. WHAT WEARS SPRINGS OUT IS THE CYCLING OF THE SPRING ( USING IT ) Mags have been found fully loaded from WWII and still functioned fine without problems:cool:. Again repeated compression and release of compression will cause the spring to become WEAK and cause you problems:rolleyes: Nuf said.

How do u come up with 7 is better than 11? Why not 6? Or 5? Nothings foolproof ya know....not even the gun itself. I mean it would really be ideal to just carry one in the chamber and no clip...after each round is fired lock back the slide and chamber another round. It will sure cut down all ftfs and ftes !

Yup, 1 in the chamber, and magazine topped off. would hate to think that last cartridge was the one I needed most.

Yup,like 22-Mag said you're just wearing out your mag springs. The compression and decompression wears them out much faster than letting them sit compressed.

My carry pistol always get +1.

The mag was designed to hold a certain number of rounds and thats what it gets.Unless the specific gun/mag has known issues i see no reason not to load to capacity. The only time i download anything is with AR USGI mags that get 28 rounds.

In 1984 I took a Glock 17 magazine, the old not falling free one! Left it on a shelf for a year (birthday to birthday) and popped it in to my Glock 17, slide locked back, fired all 17, perfect.

The newer springs are even better.

Always carry to capacity, that is what they are designed to do, and do it well. My old saying "More is better, always" says it all.

Those times when I carry an autoloader -- yes. Naturally, when carrying a revolver I don't since the concept doesn't apply.

It Depends

When I carry The Glock 19 or 17, I rarely bother topping off. 1911, Kahr, or P7, I usually carry the extra round. I carry a spare 17 magazine with the Glocks, a spare Wilson 10 round with the 1911, a spare 6 round mag with the MK40 Kahr, or a spare stock magazine with the P7.

Not so at all. Fully loading and unloading a magazine will wear out the spring...not the repeated loading and unloading of the single round that is required to "top off" a magazine.

By the way, I always top off a semi-auto that I am going to carry.
