do these grips look silly?

I bought a ruger gp 100 about 2 years ago and i love the thing. But when i bought it came with black hogue rubber grips that were big and ugly looking. Then i bought the same hogue grips but in cocobolo wood( i think thats the name) but didnt like how the gun pointed and just seemed big. Then i got some nice looking wood grips from ebay and i really like these except when i shoot magnums i get cuts on my thumb knuckle. Then i bought the original gp100 grips with the side panels and feel great and shoot great but not really liking the looks. Maybe its just me but wood and rubber dont really go together. So i decided to glue a piece of leather to the area the cuts my knuckle and this is the result.

Do you guys think this looks goofy? I want honest replys because i can always go back to the original panel grips. Is it really this hard to find nice wood grips for a gp 100??

If it works for you, then it's all good. Heck, I have 3M Traction Tape for better gripping on some of my carry pieces. On another, I have zombie green grips. So, to each their own. Afterall, it's still an inexpensive country. ;)

They look a little goofy, but it's your gun, so who cares what I think. If you're going to take a picture for a photo contest, use the stock Ruger grips.

I don't think it looks all too bad... and for a frame of reference, I totally agree that the original Hogue rubber is a visual abomination. Honestly looks like a buttplug.

A little hint: Take your picture with a darker background...the camara light meter will result in a lighter picture of the dark grip. I can hardly see the grips in your original picture.

You say you bought "the original gp100 grips with the side panels"...

Are these the full size or the compacts that were put on the fixed sight models?

I much prefer the compacts...

If the grips cut your knuckles up on full power loads....then they need to be changed. I'm not a big fan of the leather patch...sorry...

Rather than the leather....I think I'd try some other styles of grips / there are so many out there - it is hard to figure out what will fit you the best..and give you the right grip angle. Talk to your buddies / other shooters when you see them shooting the same gun at the range - with different grips on them...and your grip of choice will evolve.

I don't think it matters what it looks like as long as it functions for you.
I'm like JohnKSa in the respect that I like the feel of the stock rubber Ruger grips with the wood inserts, they're comfortable and work for me. Maybe you might like some of Altamont's offerings, they have some silver/black grip panels that really look sharp. I understand that they make the wood panels with the logo for Ruger offered these days. Here's a link to their site.

Salmon eye they are the full size.

Thanks for the altamont link and chigsgrips link they have some awesome looking panels! Im going to look into that. Ive spent a lot of money experimenting whith the right grip that ill probably just have to settle with one of these.

I say yes to the leather

It makes me think of how a primitive hunter might wrap a bow or spear in leather for comfort or grip. It is organic. I bet it works good, yeah?

If they fit your hand and are comfortable to shoot then they are the right ones. Who cares what they look like, if your going to wear it at the next BBQ then change them out for the day then go back to the ones that work better for you.
