Do SW99 and Walther P99 bbls interchange?

I'm getting ready to return to the US for a short vacation & want to burn some 9mm through my Walther P99 while still keeping the SN'd original bbl in cherry condition. Does anyone know if the SW99 and P99 bbls are interchangeable? I called S&W & received a non-definative answer. SW99 bbls are $83 versus $175 for the P99 bbls. I'd sure like to get a quality shooter bbl for less than $100. Thanks ...
PS - buying a bbl here in Germany is not possible since barrels are SN'd & registered here.

I'm not positive, only going by what I read in one Combat Handguns report. The jist was that the SW99 9mm barrel was "bell'd" to fit the SW99 slide because the SW99 slide was designed for .40S&W originally. This would make it unlikely that it would fit the Walther slide.

P99 & SW99 bbl interchangeability

Extremist & Blades - Thanks for your input. Extremist - now that you mention it I do remember seeing an article/picture with the 9mm SW99 having a belled bbl. So much for that idea I guess. I noted with interest your signature w/ the Walther comment; I was able to locate (both like NIB) both a P-38K and a P-5 over here. The P-5 has a .30 Luger conversion bbl. I also have a P-89/.30L and a BHP conversion bbl stored in the States. It's an odd & hard to find caliber but my oldest brother had a WWI war trophy Luger in .30 & got me interested in it. I had a commercial P-4 which I foolishly sold in Arizona before I came to Germany. I've also picked up a P-88C in addition to the P-99. I'd really like to locate a commercial/LNIB full-size P-38 + another P-5 to round out my 'modern' Walther collection. I've been watching GunsAmerica & drooling - I can't buy anything in the States until we return in 2003 & re-establish residency.

Yes, I've had my eye on a P5-C or P88C, but everytime I pick one up at a gun show, I really can't convince myself to pick one up for $700+. I don't like them THAT well, and tell myself, "Self, I think I'd rather have another P-7 or P-99 for that price".

How do you like your P-88C and P5? How do they compare in accuracy to your P99 (which in my hands, is second only to my P-7s in accuracy)?

James
(Wishing I could go to Germany and pick up some neat Walther accessories like threaded barrels, neat cases, etc.)
