Do Model 92 barrels require factory fitting?

I was looking at my beretta 92fs manual and noticed that it says factory fitting required for a new barrel, why is this?

Are the Cougars the same? That could explain why I never see 357 Sig barrels for the Beretta 40's.

I do not believe you need to have it fitted for the Cougar. The locking block is not attached to the barrel. The barrel rests on top of the camming locking block in the Cougar.

I don't know about the barrels, but I swapped out a locking block (after 10+years I figured why not) and have had no problems. Accuracy is still excellent.
