Do I need 2 shotguns?

I bought a 28 inch camo supernova a long time ago, I use it mostly for skeet and eventually will take some birds and bunnies with it. I wanna buy a nice short barrel fabarm pump for hiking though and am really torn about owning two shotguns. Mainly because all of my practice shouldering, fitting, operating action etc will be on the gun that I use to bust clays. If I have to defend myself from a charging predator, zombie or tax collector I'll then be using the shotgun with which I have very little experience. Anyone been in a similiar conondrum?

I agree with the above because you never know when you might just encounter a problem and need a spare. I have found that most things I like under 1000 dollars that I use alot, I have a spare:D. Not sure what I recommend the 2nd shotgun to be but it can't hurt to have 2.

Sounds like you are a good candidate for a Remington 870 or the Mossberg 500 series; both of these have numerous barrel length / type options and do not cost as much as other brands.

Youbetcha!
You said you mostly shoot Skeet -- to do it right, you need to shoot four gauges.

dont get me wrong I aint looking to compete I just like shootin clays. hmm...seems like yall like the idea of more guns heheheheh.

So I guess the difference between two shotguns is negligible??

Problem solved.

If you are opposed to two shotguns for some unidentified reason (why not tell us why), then buy an additional shorter barrel. Therefore, one shotgun and two barrels. Problem solved. I can not believe no one mentioned this less than perfect solution.

2 shotguns is never enough ....not even for just one gague...but anyway ...

Yes, changing platforms ..is always a concern on the clays fields or in defense. But if they are both pump guns ....its not that big a deal ....

I'm a bad example. I got my first one this summer - I think I actually took possession in early August. That was a 12 ga. I have a 20 ga in the mail to my ffl right now. I may wait a bit before the 28 and the 410, although if opportunity presents itself. . . .

shooting skeet is fun.

For most of us guns have accumulated over time ...

when I was a kid ...( I had one 16ga from time I was 8 - 21 probably).

When I was about 21, I bought a 2nd gun - a 12ga pump ( so I had 2 ).

When I was about 37, I bought another pump gun ( a 20ga ) and an O/U ( 12ga ) so now I had 4 ....( and 2 kids were shooting too ) so I needed 4 guns.

At about 47 ...( kids are out of house, and I had some money finally ! ) and things got a little nuts ....and I started adding about 2 shotguns a year, or more ....to the point now, at 60 or so ....I have about 25 shotguns...( because I can afford it and I like nice guns ---and while I still shoot the old pump guns and even that old 16ga once in a while...) mostly I just keep them clean and oiled and sitting in the safe as good memories...

Today, I have and will probably always keep:
the old 16 ga bolt action
the old pair of Browning pump guns - in 12ga and 20ga
a few Benelli semi-autos in 12ga and 20ga
a bunch of Browning O/U's in 12ga, 20ga, 28ga and .410 ....

but I'll pass on some of the extra O/U's - to the grandkids as they reach about 16 or so ....and some onto the adult kids ( in their 30's now ) as they get their act together...

Here,Mike, want and need are synonyms.

To the OP, I use 870s for everything except clays and sometimes then. Common controls means practice with one is practice with all.

Lots of us have those 500 or 870 combos where an extra barrel adds oodles of versatility. An extra 500 or 870 adds even more.
