Do I make this trade?

I'm talking with a guy on ARMSLIST about trading my Taurus Model 85 .38 special snubbie for his Stoeger Cougar 9mm model 8000. I have done some research on the Stoeger and they seem to be decent guns. They are basically a Beretta with Stoeger stamped on them.

Do you guys think this is a good trade?

Well I would rather have it. The Taurus has not failed once since i've had it but since it is a Taurus it worries me.

The guy is taking his time giving me his final decision as to whether he wants to trade or not. So this thread may be even more pointless if he decides not to trade.

I dont know anything about stoeger, but i own a taurus 85 hammerless, and I love it. Its my only revolver, and i carry the hell outta it! I wouldnt trade it, this one stays with me, or in my house so my family can protect themselvse if im not around.

Well, I think the Cougar is a much better gun. Hands down. It is a good deal value and weapon wise.

But the Cougar isn't a small concealed carry gun by any means. I have one (used to have two, but someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse).

My small frame revolvers fit the CCW role better. I like my Stoeger, it just fits into the "truck" gun category. IMHO Have you shot the DA/SA automatics?

P.S.

If your Taurus hasn't given you any problems and you have had it awhile I think you got a good one. They aren't ALL bad.

I carry a full size Glock 22 as my primary CCW gun. The stoeger would replace the Taurus as my BUG. I'm not really concerned with the size of it. I have fired a few DA/SA semi's and liked them. I like high capacity semi autos better than revolvers anyway.

The Taurus is pretty though, the bluing is perfect and the grips are nice. But I am just bored with it and want another 9mm semi.

Oh Heck Yes!,,,

Common Taurus revolver for a nice Beretta 9mm.

I would make the trade fast,,,
Before the other person wakes up. ;)

That is a nice gun! I guess I would trade my taurus for it. Then id go buy another snubby, but this time in .357

That's what I was thinking! I am trying to see if he will do the trade tomorrow as I am busy today. Busy playing on the forums and some Battlefield 3 on my Xbox 360.:D (Plus my wife has the car)

Stoeger is owned by Beretta and the Cougar design was originally a Beretta design. The Beretta Cougar (8000 series) is very well designed. I would take the Cougar over the Taurus hands down.

So my attempts to get a solid answer out of this guy have yet to bear fruit. He seems interested but is flaky. I have been trying to get him to call me all night and when I called, he did not answer the phone.

I might be getting played here... I don't know yet. Maybe I am too excited about the possibility of getting a new (to me) gun and I am pressuring him too much.

My quest to trade up has not ended, but has just encountered a maze that I must find the end of. Wish me luck, I will update when I get a definite answer.

The Cougar is indeed a Beretta design but it is made in Turkey , not Beretta in Italy. So you can not really call it a Beretta any more than You can call a Uberti a Colt:o

Beretta moved all the tooling , etc. to Turkey. It is made off the same tools, etc. as it has ever been. I don't think the finish is as nice as the Beretta Cougar, but it's a solid finish and good quality. I've compared my Beretta Cougar and even parts with a Stoeger Cougar, and could find no real differences.

May be a bit rougher...... that some light polishing would resolve.

A Taurus 605 & 85 have both proven to be very reliable guns with essentially no real issues. They are good reliable guns and hold up well.

However, you can buy possibly 1 1/2 - 2 Taurus 85's for the price of the Stoeger Cougar. So, I'ld take the trade and buy me a use 85 at a gun show down the line. The Seller, may have gotten 'educated' to that.

Interesting, so a Colt !911 made in South America on equipment furnished by Colt isn't a Sistema but in reality still a Colt? I didn't realize that. A gun made in Turkey made on Beretta machinery is still a Beretta , Like I said , interesting.

if colt made a 1911 in south america it would still be colt. no matter where they made it. beretta owns stoeger so if there were made it turkey, while maybe not as polished as one made in italy it would still be the same company.

funny you should say that because i believe beretta also owns uberti.

It's a tossup. I'd tend to favor a snub, right now, especially if it's been sound for you.
