Do Campaign Contributions Create Odds??

Are campaign contributions like bets?
When I contribute am I really betting that my candidate will win?
Has anyone ever researched the relationship between the amounts of contributions and winning or losing?
Can we translate relative contributions into odds of success and failure?
Or am I just weeing in the wind at 3:15 AM?

Not sure about the odds, but they sure do generate lots of junk mail.

Not sure if you could really compare things as there are many different types of money out there (personal donation to individual candidate, personal to party, personal to lobby groups, business donations to the same, etc.)

I would like to think that I'm voting with my dollars when somebody does manage to pry some $ out of my wallet. But I have a feeling that it is more of a guilt payoff than anything (if I'm willing to give this guy $ then I should be willing to give some time and pound on doors, but I just don't want to).

A good idea but I think that there are too many varriables so that (as usual with studies) you can make the study show anything you wanted.

As far as what you are waving around in the middle of the night, I really don't want to know :D.

Big corporations are contributing money to LA for the Demo. convention. They are obviously doing it because it works. They are probably the same companies that gave for the Repub. convention in Phily.
I think all contributions should be anonymous
If this were possible, it would sure clean up a lot of moneyed enfluence and politicians could vote based on merit rather than who they owe a favor.
