Do Bar-Sto barrels affect reliability?

Hi all,

I have a browning hi-power that I'm thinking about having worked over by the people at Cylinder & Slide. My question is, I was thinking about having them fit a Bar-Sto match barrel to the gun, but was worried if that might affect reliability? I know the tighter chamber hurts reliability with poorly reloaded ammo, but I'm only concerned with the functioning of high-quality premium factory loaded hollowpoints, specifically federal hydra-shoks. Will I encounter failures to chamber these rounds if I switch to Bar-Sto? Thanks.

In my experience, no . . .

I bought a .40 S&W BarSto barrel for my Sig P-226 (which was manufactures with a .357 Sig barrel). The Sig was -- and is -- flawlessly reliable with either barrel in place. Further, accuracy, if anything, improved marginally with the BarSto barrel, and this is with the .40 S&W round that some feel is inherently less accurate than the .357 Sig.

It shouldn't if it is fit properly. I have shot tens of thousands of rounds through my IPSC guns and they are flawless. Most of them reloads also. If it makes you feel better you can always have them ream the chamber a touch. I would get their opinion on that though.

I have a Fitted Bar-Sto(by BarSto) in a Glock 21 and it has been 100% reliable, and this is with my own reloads.

Hello. Over the years, I've had a number of HPs with Barsto bbls in them, all in 9mm. I've never noted its affecting reliability. I have noticed that if you reload and use heavily-shot cases that have expanding quite a bit near the base where the sizing die doesn't get, eventually they will not chamber in the tighter-toleranced Barsto chamber. This has only occurred when I could visibly see a bulge. Never had any problems when using factory, or handloaded ammunition in which the cases had been properly sized down.

In 9mm, the Barsto does appear to be a very good choice when using cast or plated bullets as its 1:16 twist seems to give tighter groups than the factory 1:10.

Best.

Properly fitted, a Bar-Sto barrel will have NO effect on reliability with ANY but the most grossly out-of-spec rounds.

ANY barrel, if improperly fitted, can make a pistol unreliable.

I would advise not getting their semi-drop in barrels. They produce virtually identical results to their drop-in barrels... because they normally DON'T drop-in. :D

I wouldn't trade the Bar-Sto barrel in my Delta Elite for anything else.

I highly recommend Bar-Sto. I had one installed in my 1911 45, and it was incredibly accurate, and VERY reliable.

I concur with CastleBravo. BarSto barrels are GREAT if fitted at the factory, or by a good gunsmith.

After two bad experiences out of two tries, I wouldn't have another one of their semi-drop-in barrels as a gift.

Pay the few extra bucks and get it custom fitted to your gun.

I agree on sending Bar-Sto your gun.......I didn't with my Glock 32C and the barrel wouldn't fit when I got it back.

The next day, I called them and they said to send in my gun. Had it back 2 days later with a new barrel which fit absolutely perfectly.

I would do business with them again, would just send my gun the first time around though.
