Do armadillos hibernate or migrate?

All through September I was taking 1 to 3 armadillos every morning at my lady friend's garden,,,
I would leave an hour early for work getting there just before sun-up,,,
We would go on her back porch where she would spotlight them,,,
Then I would pop them with an old H&R in .357 Mag.

The last one she or I have seen was early in the first week of October,,,
I mean there was a veritable herd of the damned little things,,,
I find it difficult to believe I've shot them all.

Does anyone have an insight to their behavior?,,,
Have I simply ran the rest of them off?
Or have I slaughtered them all.

I remember back when I was a kid, we'd sit on the porch and watch the armadillo herds heading south for the winter. The lines would stretch out to the horizon as the vast herds rambled on.

No, armadillos don't migrate. I suspect you've shot all those in your neighborhood.

Armadillo behavior

I'm with Natman. Oh those were the days!! This time of year the Armadillo Wad (herd) would mosey along destroying lawns as they went. Like Natman said they would stretch to the horizon. The most Conservative Armadillo leading the way, while all the Liberal Armadillo complained, but still waited for his direction. The great Armadillo migration always proceeded the Congressional migration. The Congressman would migrate East to make unecessary laws and spend money foolishly. Oh those were the days!!

The armadillo is the only mammal known to have prolonged submerged hibernation. In the spring time, it is cool to see them exiting the lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams when the water temperature rises far enough.

Check the water holes in your area.

They seem to migrate under my deck, porch, and house this time of year...
Oh, and also during the spring, summer, and winter...

I think you just thinned 'em out in the neighborhood.

Thanks Double Naught Spy,,,

Interesting article,,,
I'll have to show it to my Poppa.

He swore to me that when he was a kid,,,
He saw an armadillo walking on the bottom of a small stream.

Since my Poppa never let truth get in the way of a good story,,,
I never quite believed him on that one,,,
I'll show him the article,,,
And apologize.

The reason I posted originally was that on any given morning,,,
We would see a dozen or more of the danged critters,,,
I could only get 2-3 before the rest scurried away.

Then one morning there weren't any armadillos at all,,,
And it's been that way ever since,,,
They just disappeared.

That's why I thought maybe they hibernated or something,,,
I've never seen varmints go away en masse like that.

I thought it was odd,,,
And it kinda pi**ed me off,,,
I just bought a new rifle/scope for them.

In case you get lonely, you can stroll down memory lane here. And if you need something to do with your new "diller killer", take on starlings.;)

It's a little much for starlings,,,

The new diller killer is an H&R Handi Rifle in .357 Magnum,,,
A bit too much gun for Starlings I would think.

If starlings are the bird I'm thinking of I use a .177 pellet gun on those pests,,,
I can sit in my living room and shoot through a window in the summer,,,
I've filled trash sacks with carcasses of those danged things,,,
They just keep coming back in greater numbers.
