Dissassembled and cleaned Glock, now firing pin safety spring creaks

I just dissassembled and fully cleaned my Glock 30 for the first time, and after putting it back together I noticed that when pulling the trigger, I heard a spring creaking about midway through the trigger pull.

I disassembled the gun again and figured out that the source of the creak was the firing pin safety spring. Whenever the firing pin block is pushed down, whether by me pulling the trigger or me pressing it down manually after taking the slide out, the spring makes a creaking sound.

I've taken the slide apart a few times, oiled the firing pin block and tried reinserting the spring in different ways, but the creak won't go away. Did I somehow ruin the spring the first time I took it out? Does it need to be replaced? The gun seems to function fine.

Thanks for any advice.
 
So I should grease the spring as opposed to oiling it? I used 20W50 motor oil to oil the other parts of the gun.

Sounds like you plan on towing a trailer with your Glock. Just kidding, but oil doesn't stick to stuff like grease does.
 
You don't put any lube at all anywhere near the firing pin channel, which, of course, includes the firing pin safety and spring. I do polish the firing pin safety on my Glocks.

Is the spring in correctly? You have to turn it counter-clockwise when installing it into the firing pin safety, in order to lock it in.
 
Thanks, Alleykat, looks like my spring wasn't all the way in after all. I got it in completely with some pushing and turning, now it makes no sound.

That's terrific! Going to pick up my "new" G17 @ Glock/Smyrna on Monday.

Many moons ago, I took my first Glock, a G21, into Glock/Smyrna to have night sights installed. When the armorer came back out with my G21, he cautioned me brutally about overoiling my Glock. Like some of those geniuses at the L A Sheriff's office, I had squirted oil into the little hole in the bottom of the slide. :)

The firing pin and extractor channels should be kept completely dry.
