Dissappointed in RRA

Back in February I ordered a RRA ATH upper from Pete at legal transfers. Since I live in NY I ordered the brake pinned and welded to meet the NYS AWB. The other day the the upper shows up without a brake and and just a recessed target crown. I call Legal transfers and Pete says he will call RRA and get back to me. Today I get a return call from Pete saying there is nothing he can do for me other than return the $25 he had charged me to have my non existent brake pinned and welded. He was told by RRA they are now only selling non threaded barrels to meet AWB compliance now. Nowhere on there website do they state that little fact:mad: I emailed RRA directly and have yet to get a response.

It would seem that in February when the order was sent to RRA they were still pinning and welding brakes, but sometime after that they changed their policy without informing their dealer (legal transfers) or their customer (me) of that change. A simple phone call informing me of the change would have allowed me to cancel my order before they built an upper to different specs then the ones stated on their website at the time of my order!

It may seem trivial that changing a brake to a target crown is a big deal to me, but I liken it to ordering a car from chevy with a V8 and then having chevy build and ship it to you with a V6. There is a difference in performance between a rifle with a brake and one without. So before anyone orders from RRA, it may be in your best interest to just pass and order from a quality company like BCM where it seems customer service is more than just words!

I've owned 2 RRA rifles, they have been great and I received them 4 weeks ahead of schedule both times I ordered them...Haven't ever had to use their CS...Just because you didn't get the product you wanted, how does that make them a non-quality company? Quality has nothing to do with your situation...

No doubt it's difficult to keep up with laws in every ban state, in fact some AR makers refuse to ship to certain states (BCM may be one). Possibly RRA has decided to simplify things and build a ban rifle that's legal in each ban state.

I really don't know their reasoning but you're certainly within your rights to complain to RRA that you didn't get what was ordered. But I would triple check the laws in NY and anything local for you to make sure you're asking for something that is legal for you.

When, in fact, the real under lying problem is the screwed up laws in places like NY, CA, IL, and a few more places. Why not sue the state for some sort of consumer violation? Don't mind me, I'm just ranting...

I can totally understand your anger over them not telling anyone about the policy change. Since there is still nothing on RRA's web site with regards to Muzzle breaks in NYS I'd be a bit annoyed too. I would guess though that RRA's issue is more the fact that the muzzle break on the upper receiver could be construed as a flash suppressor. Seems like the NYS Assault Weapon Ban is making everyone nervous. Spoke with a dealer locally that deals in firearms for LEOs and was told that he has a couple of suppliers that won't even send him items that were banned by the AWB. Even though LEOs were exempted from the ban. He had to find other distributors for a few items.

Hey everybody, just have a question about RRA. I ordered an AR-15 from them through a dealer on 2/17/11. Since then I have not heard anything about the rifle. I know the RRA website says their rifles can take 30-60 days to be delivered. I know I am only at day 44 so I am not worried yet. However, I just wanted to know what kind of wait times some of you guys who have ordered from RRA have experienced. Also, is the 30-60 days mean business days or does it include weekends? Thanks guys, I can't wait for my new rifle to get here!

I can remember not that long ago, the wait was 6 months to a year. It can seem like forever when your waiting, but it really hasn't been that long.

Both of the rifles I ordered through a dealer were given a 4-8 week (30-60 days) delivery time. I received both in 2-3 weeks...

OP, sorry for your issue.
I ordered an upper through Pete and got it in less than 3 weeks....that was last fall.
Don't know what their backlog looks like now.
Wish they'd get back in the 1911 business.

A muzzle break on a 223 is like a spoiler on a Geo Metro. Sure you can tell it is there by looking at it but it doesn't matter a lick towards performance.

I know it wasn't what you wanted, and thank you for sharing your experience, but recoil reduction isn't needed on an AR.

No, but for some of us behind the lines, a brake (depending on the one you choose) can also be the only way to get some flash suppression (definitely needed on a carbine if you're going to set it up for defense).

We didn't realize anybody here ordering an RRA was "behind the lines"

Sounds a bit melodramatic when you put it that way. I wonder to what lines you are referring?

Sorry the OP didn't get the rifle accessories he ordered.

Move to Indiana. No worries with such things out here.

Of course, none of us are "behind the lines.";)

A tongue-in-cheek reference to living in states with an AWB.

But then "move to Indiana" is flippant, so we're even.

Problem solved by RRA. Here is an IM from them!

The "normal" AWB-compliant model of the ATH has a target-crowned, no muzzle devise fitted barrel. Unless it was ordered (by Peter) specifically with a pinned and welded brake, a ban-compliant upper half would have gone out exactly as it did. We didn't change an order at our prerogative, we shipped what was requested of us.
That said, we can still help you.
As long as the upper half is in new condition, we can exchange it for you for an upper with the pinned and welded brake. There would be an additional charge for both the brake and the pinning and welding (as well as th e shipping), but it would be the same upcharge as would have been on the upper if ordered in that configuration originally. If that is of interest toiyou, please contact BJ in customer relations (866-980-7625) to explain what you have, what I've offered, and to get a return authorization fo rth eupper half.
Thanks.
Steve/RRA

I would like to APPLAUD RRA for standing behind their product!

So you went from posting publicly about "disappointed in RRA" to them agreeing to fix the issue in less than 48 hours?

Might have been a bit premature

The problem started several days prior to my post. It was only when I posted, did I get their attention.
