i've got a dissapator and i'm surprized to hear that they may take something other than standard forearms. maybe someone will comment and tell us they are same as standard...Dick
I'm going out on a limb here, so take it for what it's worth.
The reason that a hand guard on a Disipator is different than a standard handguard is because it covers the forward portion of the gas tube assembly-thingy. In other, less technical words, the metal liner under the handguard is notched out to make room for this part-whose-name-I-do-not-know. Understand? On a standard 20" Bushmaster, this part is incorperated into the front sight. On a Dissipator, the front sight assembly is in front of the handguard, the special thingy is under the handguard. How much clearer can it be?
This highly technical explanation is based on the ASSumption that a forend is the same thing as a handguard. If not, then please ignore this post.
You might need to cut out a small area on the upper hand guard heat shield so the gas block will fit, but other then that the Dissipator barrel takes the standard A2 hand guards.
i'll try to get a minute tomorrow to compare mine to original colt to see. as for where to order, if i need any AR parts i order them online from bushmaster. you'll have them in a couple of days...Dick
I have a dissipator barrel assembly that I obtained from JT.
It has the large gas block under that handguards. I put it on an A1 upper reciever. It takes standard A2 handguards and the Surefire Millenium light with no modifications.
At work we used the DPMS dissipator barrel assemblies on our M16's and put Surefire Millenium lights on them as well with no modification.
