discusted with local dealer, Lipseys, or both...

Before Christmas I ordered one of the flat top 44 Special Bisley revolvers, through my local dealer... on the 23rd of December I placed the order, & it was an in stock item... a week later I called... local dealer tells me they haven't ordered one from them in a while, & had to do a new credit app... I called a week later, & the local shop, said they called them, & it had shipped... stopped in there today, over a month after an in stock gun order, & still no gun... local dealer called them in front of me... & they hadn't shipped it yet... said they would ship it today, & I'd have it by Friday...

so... these guns are for sale on Gun Broker, with shipping, & transfer at Cabalas ( cheaper transfer than local dealer ) it would have been $20.00 more & I could have had the gun nearly a month ago...

anyone else had issues with Lipseys, or do you think the local dealer is just leading me on... I did put 50% down on the order...

sorry... needed to vent a little... I realize they likely had to do year end inventory, but... does my experience seem unacceptable to anyone else???

It's hard to get a really good feel for exactly what the problem is and who is or isn't telling the whole story and/or dropping the ball.

However:
I did put 50% down on the order...
Uhh, yeah. I think you have every right to be annoyed and demand some answers, you've actually got money in on this project and IMO, that definitely gives you a fine platform to be annoyed and demand some answers.

If you didn't have money in on it, I might suggest ordering it from a GB dealer, shipping it through another FFL and then showing it off to the shop that can't seem to find their butts with both hands.

I was trying to build a rapport with this dealer... I've been bringing up guns for finish work, & my closest local dealer ( whom I've purchased the most from in the past, had his license pulled a year ago ) so I'm looking for a new favorite place to buy...

would have cost me a total of $20.00 more to buy off GB... if I had any idea, it was going to take over a month, I'd have easily spent the extra $20.00

I think you're being too impatient

You ordered it less than 4 weeks ago, and just before a major holiday season

I ordered an LCR-X the day before that... which was the reason I was there... my LCR-X was there in one day ... I was picking it up that day, & decided to order the Flat top ( which again was listed as "in stock" when I ordered it )

I think what’s frustrating is when you don’t get accurate and timely feedback on what’s going on. However, if they were required to set up a new account along with the holidays that might be a legitimate reason for it taking a month.

If your local dealer got in one gun in a day, he is probably not the reason for the delay of another. If he wants to keep you as a customer, he can probably show you his orders if you ask nice and don't imply that he is a liar.

Jim

Don't know if this applies to your situation, but a while back, long before the holidays, I had inquired about a Ruger 44 Special.
(Not to be confused with their .44 Magnums).
The dealer said there seemed to be a large and unexpected demand for these and not to be in any hurry for getting one.

Lipsey's is one of the finest distributors in the country. I personally know several of their staff since I'm from BTR. I'd recommend you call them directly to get the skinny.

In late November I talked to my local dealer about the same gun.I told him I didn't have the cash now but would in a few week's. He called lipsey's and thay said it was in stock now so he ordered it and held it for me.It seemed like lipsey was a little low on stock.

It sounds to me like someone is dragging their feet. I don't know if it is Lipsey's or your dealer, but if the gun was in stock it should have been in by now even if they did have to renew their credit with Lipsey's. If they are anything like the bonds that the company that I used to work for did with stores over hunting and fishing licenses everything should have been finished within 5 business days. Holiday or not 5 business days was a long time ago.

..and that's what makes me wonder why folks are so insistent on dealing with 'local dealers'. I totally understand wanting to build a relationship with a person who does repair, maintenance or custom work. But to buy a firearm? I wouldn't go out of my way NOT to buy from a local gunshop, but that would mean in most cases I have to get in the car, drive to a gun shop, actually talk to someone trying to sell me something, and hope I didn't get talked into buying something other than what I actually wanted. :)

Seems so much easier to shop and compare from a dozen sources in the span of an hour online. Heck I even have gone the auction route, gotten exactly what I wanted, and had it delivered to my club in 5 days.

I have avoided these frustrations in every purchase I've made, and I never have had to call anyone to find status. I have a tracking number in my inbox.

Just today, I followed the progress of my new-to-me 629 from the shipper in KY to my local post office to delivery at my club at 3:45pm this afternoon. I'm not saying my way is the best way or the better way for you, I'm saying it greatly reduces my stress level--HUGELY reduces my stress level.

The biggest source of stress for me is "where's my stuff?", not whether it takes 3 days or 20 days. The one single thing I find totally intolerable though are those sites that allow you place an order, but take 4 days to inform you your product isn't available. That happens one time, and I move on to another source.

I think it was over at Glock Talk, it seemed routine that folks would be telling a sorry tale of having to wait 6 months or more for their order to come in...FOR A GLOCK. I actually checked on some of their order placement dates and as I remember it, one guy had ordered his from his local dealer about the time I placed mine with Some Guy on gunsamerica.com. I had mine in hand, at the range, shooting it 7 days later. Granted, this is for a commodity Fischer-Price gun made by the 1000s, but still, short of a collector's item, why all the fuss?

Well I'm glad you finally got your new addition. It is frustrating to wait for something you know is instock and should of arrived with in a week or two, being that you put money down makes it even easier to become impatient. I have been there myself, again congrats on the new toy and how about some pics?

I'll get a picture soon... I'm shopping for grips now... it came with a set of brown laminated grips, that the fit is nothing to brag about, from Ruger... I think the gun looks pretty dark, so I'm looking for something lighter in color... even thinking about real stag grips with less bark coverage for the lighter color

this is a stock picture from Lipsey's of the gun...

sounds like the credit app that Lipsey's had from the local dealer had expired & they had to send a new one... still seems like a long time, in these days of Fax machines & such... but it also sounds like Lipsey's is out of these right now, so they must have pulled one for this order, even though there was the issue with the shop's credit app

sorry... spell checker didn't catch it...

No problem Magnum. I was just messing with you.:D Believe me I have made some super dumb spelling mistakes myself.

Your gun looks good. I like the dark grips but at least swapping around is easy. Not always cheap but easy.

I know how you feel. I ordered a firearm and waited three months last fall. A friend bought the same gun through another shop (ordered) and got it in two weeks. Every time I asked I got the run around. Like Bongo said I'll stick to online purchases from now on. I've had great experiences ordering through Bud's, no surprises, tracking info the next day and shipped right to my gun club.

I had a heck of a time when I tried to order my Single 7 through my Local guy.
It was not Lipseys fault though.

When Lipsey announced the item and recommended we pre order to insure you get one.
I asked my Guy are you a Lipsey dealer and can you pre order a gun for me?
Pretty specific.
He said Sure I can.
I gave him the Item number ect and said get R done!!
He said ok I will keep an eye out when they come out.
Fast forward to release date.
Call my guy. I asked, heard any thing yet? Lipsey said they released it.
I just checked, nothing yet.
Ok I will check back.
Two weeks latter. You have any news for me. Some guys are receiving theirs.
Nope nothing yet. I will call and get back to you.
Another two weeks. Hey whats up??? How come you haven't got confirmation of my order?
I dont know. I will call my distributor and see whats up.
I said " What you talkin about Willis??" You mean your Lipsey rep right?
No I order through a distributor and I told him to keep an eye out for me. I have some one who wants one.
Fudge!!! ok bye.

Then I emailed Jason Clousner with Lipsey to try to get him to hold one for me until I found a REAL Lipsey dealer.
Worked out in the end. Just had to wait longer and drive 70 miles.
But got it.

Moral: Dealers if a not out right lie. Will sure muddy the water to answer but not answer your questions.
