In very good condition 30cal. Some parts replaced plus a non-original magazine. They're asking $1,500.00

Should I?

Check LGI website, they're selling an estate collection. I recall seeing a couple of P38's, m/b some Lugers; don't recall. Very inexpensive!

My mistake; try Larry's Guns, the Norm Drolet collection. The Luger's aren't inexpensive. The one similar to your photo is $2000+. The P38's are inexpensive.

As a child, we had several Lugers and P38's in the family. I was probably 10 years old, but found I favored the P38's. That was 67 years ago, haven't shot either of them since.

Is the barrel original? Is that one of the 1970's Mauser P08's? I'd be sorely tempted even if it were a later Mauser, but being a shooter the price seems higher than I'd want to pay.

The .30 round is hard to load well for as the P08 "Luger" bore is a few thousandths larger than available bullets. Some say the shock of firing seals the back of the bullets. It was something I remember wondering about. Too bad it's not 9MM.
You should ask in the Luger forum, http://www.lugerforum.com/

PS, it would be worth the money just to look at, set it up on the mantle or something, most esthetically pleasing lines of any pistol IMHO. I own 3 of them.

I was also thinking too bad it is not 9mm. Although that is more than I would want to pay I don't know Luger prices well enough to know if it is a good deal or not.

I can't tell you what it is, from that single pic, but I can tell you what it is not, and it is not one of the 1970s era Mauser Lugers. All those guns used the "Swiss pattern" frame, and IIRC were all in 9mm.

"Some parts replaced".. did they tell you that included the barrel?

I suspect it is a "Frankengun", a listing (pics would be best) of all the markings on it would help identify what it was, and maybe is.

$1500 is steep, but Lugers are a seller's market, and going prices have jumped again fairly recently.

Look in the Luger websites, they will have a better feel for current prices, and values (not always the same thing ;)).

If you have the cash, why not? They aren't making any more of them.

Went back today and after a complete exam I found that it is indeed a parts gun. Serial number below the barrel is repeated nowhere. 99 percent of the rest of the parts are devoid of any numbers at all. The toggle link has a different number. Barrel itself is devoid of any markings. I also found its a 9mm not 7.62mm. One good point is its a FXO magazine and that i can sell online to defer a big part of the Luger's price so I bought it this afternoon and started the waiting period.

Thank you all for your input
