I need some input on how to disassemble my model 290. I far as I know it has never been taken apart. This gun has been in my family since 1970. My dad bought it new when I was a baby, it was the first gun I ever shot and when he passed away in 1999 it was given to me. this rifle means more to me than any other rifle in my collection. Please instruct me in how to properly care for it so that it will be around after I'm gone.
Thank you.

Do a search on this forum for a Winchester 190. There is a huge thread about it. The 290 is the same gun as the 190 with a nicer stock.

Pop the pins out and you can clean it easily. The problem is putting the spring and the spring rod back in. Absolutely the hardest gun I have for cleaning. I go about a decade between shooting my 190 just because I despize cleaning it so. Nice gun otherwise.
